Waiting on the Far Side Banks of Jordan
Jeff & Terri
It was around 4:00 PM last Friday, March 2nd. After traveling over 460 miles, we had just arrived at the cabin near Pulaski, MS, where we would be staying for the next few days. We were looking forward to sharing the vision God has given us for ministry in Loja, Ecuador, with friends and churches there. Then Jeff received a phone call with the sad news that his mom, Rose Rains, had passed away.
While Rose had struggled with Parkinson's disease and other health complications for a number of years, none of us anticipated her homegoing would come as soon as it did. We are thankful for many special times we had with Jeff's mom while we were based in Decatur, AL, from April through August of last year. The lyrics of a song she loved and that was sung at her funeral last Sunday afternoon touched our hearts: I’ll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan... and when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout, and come running through the shallow waters reaching for your hand (Far Side Banks of Jordan). We are grieving the loss of her presence with us here, but are comforted to know we will be reunited with her in heaven one day.
We thank each one of you who has expressed your love and sympathy as we grieve the loss of both of our mothers in a period of less than a month. We realize more than ever how richly God has blessed us, as we think about the special people God has brought into our lives and how He has used you to minister to us.
