Successful outcomes across our REDS’s seven “high-value industries’’ were highlighted in the 2021-22 Regional Economic Development Strategy Annual Report presented to council last week.

Positive economic indicators during the 2021–22 financial year revealed a strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and that the Sunshine Coast is attracting higher paying jobs and industries.

In 2013, household income levels were 22.3% below the State average. That gap has decreased significantly, to 4.7% below the State average today, thanks to our Regional Economic Development Strategy attracting higher paying industries.

Another highlight in the report, the increased industry collaboration that enabled council to support, fund and drive the successful growth of key industry groups and associated initiatives – Cleantech Industries Sunshine Coast, Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN), Manufacturing Excellence Forum Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Tech Industry Alliance, Sunshine Coast Screen Collective, Sunshine Coast Events Industry and Visit Sunshine Coast.

The REDS underpins the significant growth and diversification that had seen the region develop a $18.5 billion economy.  READ MORE

Mooloolaba's major intersection reopens

Major roadworks for Stages 2 and 3 of the Mooloolaba Transport Corridor Upgrade (MTCU) are on the road to completion. The community can now drive through the key intersection at the corner of Brisbane Road, Walan and Hancock streets after it reopened on September 15.

The reopening comes after extensive underground services works, including mains water, sewer, stormwater and telecommunications were undertaken at the intersection since late April. The construction blitz of Stages 2 and 3 is a key part of the planning, aimed at having major roadworks completed by the end of this year. READ MORE
Vitamin SC gives Coast a healthy dose of success

Sunshine Coast Council has been named a finalist in two categories of the 2022 National Economic Development Awards for Excellence.
Work undertaken by council’s Economic Development branch earned a final berth in the category "Economic Development Strategic Thinking".

Additional work was recognised when a series of compelling investment attraction videos for the out-of-region target audience was also named a finalist in the "Economic Development Marketing and Promotion" category. These included the inspirational video campaign: ‘Give your business a boost of Vitamin SC’ (Sunshine Coast).

The campaign focussed on how a business could set up operations on the Sunshine Coast and benefit from the high-speed data via the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Network, the connectivity via the Sunshine Coast Airport’s new international runway and the work-life balance on offer.

The videos have proven to be a huge hit in their chosen market of investment decision makers based largely in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney who saw them as distinctly different from the traditional material they were receiving from other competing regions and more engaging.

The award winners will be named at a national conference in Sydney next month.
