New multi-deck car park on the way for Maroochydore CBD
Motorists and cyclists will welcome the news that 350 new car and motorcycle parking spaces will be created in the new Maroochydore city centre with Economic Development Queensland providing planning approval to construct the city centre’s first multi-deck car park. Connectivity is the key

Sunshine Coast’s ongoing success in attracting big business to the region and pivotal to a globally respected data centre operator purchasing the International Broadband Submarine Cable landing station from the council. ASX-listed NEXTDC will own and operate the cable landing station, a $8 million deal set to create jobs and stimulate more investment in the region. Read more
Building Better Regions Fund

The Australian Government BBRF supports economic and social infrastructure for the long-term benefit of regional communities. Funding the infrastructure and services that communities need for the future will create jobs and help them rebound strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Projects will be funded under two streams.
  1. The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports the construction of new infrastructure or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure.
  2. The Community Investments Stream funds community development activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities.

Applications close on Thursday, 10 February 2022.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Professional Advice Support Program offers up to one-hour of free Legal, HR or Accountancy support for businesses that have been critically impacted by COVID-19. Access to the program is subject to applicant eligibility and the availability of council resources. More information.

Important planning is underway as Sunshine Coast Council continues its journey as a key delivery partner in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Council is seeking nominations from individuals, keen to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity, to join an advisory group that will help shape the Sunshine Coast’s legacy plan as part of the 2032 Games. I invite you to consider suitable people within your networks and encourage them to submit an expression of interest. The group will be chaired by two-time Paralympian and University of the Sunshine Coast Public Health Lecturer Dr Bridie Kean and will work with Council to identify key opportunities that the region should pursue before, during and after the Games.
The Sunshine Coast Legacy Plan Community Reference Group will inform and guide the identification of the key priorities and opportunities that the region should pursue to ensure we are well positioned to secure the 10+10+ legacy intent of the Games.
In addition to the independent chair Dr Kean, the Community Reference Group will comprise two Sunshine Coast Councillors, three nominees from Council’s event delivery partners plus members from the community, representing the following:
  • Olympians / Paralympians
  • Environment and sustainability
  • Business and industry
  • Tourism
  • Community sector
  • Arts and Culture
  • Sport and active recreation
  • People with a Disability
  • Young people and the
  • Education and research sector.
Separate to this Expression of Interest process, there will be two Traditional Custodian representatives on the reference group.
