Human Trafficking is the movement of people by means such as force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them. It is modern day slavery. Thank you for reading unseen(uk)'s September newsletter!
A belated Happy New Year from all the staff, trustees and volunteers at unseen(uk)!

2011 proved to be a busy and exciting year.
Here are some of the things we got up to, we:

- Appointed a new Chair of Trustees to assist unseen(uk) to grow and develop as a charity and to ensure we achieve our aims and objectives as we set about trying to eradicate slavery.
- Secured funding to open our project to directly assist survivors of trafficking
- Became a sub-contractor for the Ministry of Justice and Salvation Army to provide support services in the South West.
- Since May 2011 we have housed and supported 13 women and 3 children
- Continued our work with Avon and Somerset Constabulary via Operation Breakthrough and started working with another police operation to look into men, women and children trafficked into the UK for forced labour to work in Cannabis factories.

What this year holds:

- We will be launching a new website in late February that will encompass all the projects and work unseen (uk) is involved in.
- We are continuing to offer consultancy and training on Human Trafficking and how to spot the signs to a range of other NGO's and statutory agencies both in the South West and further afield
- We are currently investigating a befriending programme for survivors once they have left the project in conjunction with another local charity
- We are conducting research into Child trafficking trends nationally and in the South West to see if unseen(uk) is in a position to respond to the problem
- In our last newsletter we announced unseen(uk)'s CEO had been invited to chair the Centre for Social Justice Human Trafficking Policy review. This is going well and the review will be completed and launched later this year. For more information follow this link: http://www.centreforsocialjustice.org.uk/default.asp?pageRef=518

News from our new chair:

A warm hello! I am delighted to have become Chair of unseen(uk) and wanted to briefly introduce myself and write a few words to supporters and friends of this amazing charity.

As you know our mission is of the utmost importance to the lives of so many. The evil presence of slavery thrives not only in foreign lands but in our own backyard. It is not just the grotesque sexual exploitation of trafficked women and children it’s also those whose freedom has been taken to provide products and services for our consumption or use. unseen(uk) is committed to the eradication of slavery wherever it is found and like you, I want to make my contribution to this aim.

Our task is huge which is why we will continually break it down into small, doable steps that will build momentum and achieve success. We are currently discussing new projects that will impact even more lives in this country and beyond. We look forward to talking about these with you soon. Right now it's all hands on deck as we add some of the organisational infrastructure that is needed in order for us to catch up with where we have grown!

Finally, thank you for all the support you have given unseen(uk) so far. I am thrilled to be doing this with you.
