In June, we said goodbye to our home of eight years. We loved living in Botswana. We feel so blessed to have been a part of the Bible translation efforts happening there. God blessed us in ways we could not have imagined. Now, we are saying hello to our next phase in life, living in Urbandale, Iowa. We are still able to be a part of LBT and Bible translation in Botswana, as well as regional work in southern Africa and Ethiopia. Thank God for the technology that allows for this sort of work!
On our final Sunday in Botswana, our church gave us an amazing send-off. Each group (children, youth, women, and men) sang a song, and we did too. We shared food and memories and laughter. We are so thankful for our time with this congregation!
The congregation gave us a beautiful gift of matching traditional clothing for the whole family. The cloth has the Botswana coat of arms on it, so we will think of Botswana and our friends there each time we wear these special outfits.
We spent two weeks in Europe as a family on our way back from Botswana. We loved the opportunity to take a deep breath and begin mentally transitioning to our new life. We took the train across Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, and loved every minute of our time together!
We spent a week in Concordia, MO training together with other missionaries from LBT and Mission of Christ Network. It was great to connect with others who do the same thing as us, share our stories, and plan our next phase of ministry with LBT.
We also spent a week at the Mission Training International in Colorado, debriefing our time overseas and connecting with others who are doing the same. This debrief gave us common language to help us talk through our experiences and feelings, as we transition into our new phase of life.
