Check out Bethany Garrett’s article on the issue of gender inequality in the music media. in this months article. Our event, YOU CAN’T BE WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE: (MISS) REPRESENTATION IN THE MUSIC MEDIA, takes place on 19th May at Everyman Bistro from 8pm, as part of Writing on the Wall Festival. The event features a panel discussion and is followed by a performance from PINK KINK. Head to our website for our conversation with journalist and panel guest, Laura Snapes, on the sexism in music journalism and her own writing.
Bethany Garrett: "If incessantly subject to the male gaze, women in the music and women in public life will continue to be unnecessarily trivialised and sexualised; their bodies and private lives regarded as public property, free bait to be commented on, judged, shamed, groped, whatever."

Editor Christopher Torpey and Editor-in-chief Craig G Pennington talk through some highlights of the Sound City 2016 festival on 28th and 29th May at Liverpool Waters Bramley Moore Dock, including an interview with Nick Power of festival headliners THE CORAL, as well as newly-crowned Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition winners SHE DREW THE GUN. We also speak to festival COO Becky Ayres about changes to the festival for 2016, and the ever-important Sound City+ conference and business side.
Alongside all this there is music from SLEAFORD MODS, SHURA, DILLY DALLY, FLOATING POINTS and YOUNG FATHERS, as we guide you through some of the music you can look forward to during Sound City 2016.
And make sure you pick up the Dockland Pink special edition magazine on the festival site for artist interviews, previews and news of other activations on site over the weekend.

|Don't miss the OMPHALOS - ETERNAL ENERGY exhibit, which takes place at The Invisible Wind Factory between the 19th and the 22nd of May. The show, which comes ahead of TIWF's grand opening on 27th May, is set to be a spectacle of theatre, technology, lighting, music and spirituality, a journey of discovery as much as an immersive experience. |
"TWF believe the secrets of the universe will be found in energy, frequency and vibration. Through out research we have come to a profound realisation. From that realisation comes an experience that must be shared. We invite you to join us and take a journey into the unseen."
