  • Understand the impact and importance of the work of disease intervention specialists.

Presenter

Courtney W. Brame
Founder, Executive Director, and Podcast Host of Something Positive for Positive People

Courtney W. Brame started the non-profit organization Something Positive for Positive People in 2017, after being diagnosed with herpes, as a support resource for people struggling with suicidal ideation related to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The organization's podcast features interviews with people diagnosed with an STD as a way of teaching others how to navigate stigma, ranging from diagnosis (from a health care provider) to disclosure (to partners). The organization exists now as primarily a sexual health communication platform with an emphasis on STD minimization, alleviating and dissolving stigma directly at the intersection of sexual health and mental health through advocacy for anti-stigmatizing, identity-affirming, sex-positive health care.

Event Support

Support for this project is provided by the Indiana Department of Health’s STD Prevention Program.
