More than 90,000 people vaccinated in Sussex in the last week

Data published today by NHS England showed that 382,311 vaccinations were delivered in Sussex up to 7 February, with 94,120 delivered in the last week of that period.

94,120 jabs this week in Sussex

The figures shows that 100,911 people over the age of 80 in Sussex have received their first dose. This is the fourth highest total in England and all the more impressive in the context that Sussex has one of the highest over 80s populations in the country.

By 7 February, 90% of over 80s had received their first dose, along with around 80% of the 70-79 year old population. In addition, over 130,000 people under the age of 70 have been vaccinated, including clinically extremely vulnerable people and eligible health and social care workers.

The NHS in Sussex remains on track to have offered the vaccine to everyone in the first four priority groups by mid-February, in line with the national target.

Getting the message out – my jab!

With vaccines being a hot topic at the moment we want to make sure people have the right information to be able to get their jab at the right time.

We recognise that the pace of the vaccine roll-out has meant there is some anxiety and confusion about how to get a vaccine. We are running a comprehensive communications campaign to reach residents to make sure they know who is eligible and how to book as well as to address those people who might be reluctant to be vaccinated.

Our campaign has four strands, ‘When will I get my jab?’ ‘Where will I get my jab?’ ‘Why should I get my jab?’ and ‘What happens after my jab?

Look out for our messaging on social media, in newsletters, in the local media and in key towns. Please help us by sharing these messages and pointing people to them if you are asked.

Alongside the details of vaccinations we are running myth-busting campaigns, frequently asked questions and are responding to key areas of interests or concern where they arise in specific areas.

We’re working with community groups, faith groups and other networks to make sure we not only get our messages out by are responding and reacting to where people have questions or there are barriers to people getting the vaccination, we’re running social media advertising across different networks to reach those people who don’t naturally look to us for information and we’re pushing out more traditional advertising in towns across Sussex as well as linking in with partners to reach other audiences. We are planning targeted communications in different areas responding to local need in the coming weeks through both digital channels as well as printed material in key places.

We’ll continue to evolve and adapt the campaign as more and more people become eligible for the jab. In the meantime please help us spread the word, follow us on Twitter and keep an eye on our website.
