Pilot Training in the “Curriculum for Treating Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders”
 
The Curriculum for Treating Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders presents an approach to the adolescent substance using population and addresses the main risk factors that place them at higher risk and vulnerability than other populations. It was originally developed by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the OAS in 2014 for training substance use professionals working with the adolescent population in English-speaking Caribbean member states. During 2020, this curriculum was reviewed and updated. This online training will be offered by invitation only.

I Workshop to Validate the Regional Communication Mechanism on Licit Transfers of Firearms and Ammunition

During the virtual workshop the States Parties of the Inter-American Convention against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and other related materials (CIFTA) will start the review process of the Regional Communication Mechanism on Licit Transfers of Firearms and Ammunition (MCRT-APAL), whose objective is to establish an efficient system to exchange information and licenses, reducing the vulnerabilities in the transfer processes and the risks of diversion of firearms to the illicit market. The mechanism was developed by the Department of Public Security of the OAS (DPS), in collaboration with the Spanish Civil Guard, in the framework of the project “Countering the Illicit Proliferation and Trafficking of SALW and Ammunition and their Impact in Latin America and the Caribbean,” financed by the European Union.

Virtual dialogue: “Bioeconomy: Exchange of Best Practices and Priorities”
 

In this virtual dialogue participants will exchange best practices on bioeconomics, particularly in the food production and energy sectors of the OAS member states. Among the speakers are representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of Costa Rica (MICITT); the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia (MINCIENCIAS); the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB), among others. The virtual meeting is organized by the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the OAS as technical secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Science and Technology (COMCYT).

Meeting of the Technical Working Group on Drug Supply Indicators

The webinar is intended for public and private sector officials, academics, and civil society representatives in the Americas interested in learning about the impact of telecommunications, ICT and circular economy on the conservation and restoration of ecosystems. The course is intended for public officials, academics and civil society representatives in the Americas interested in understanding the phenomenon of social networks. Technical Workshop on Strengthening Social Integration and Employment Programs for Justice-Involved Individuals with Addiction Problems

This technical workshop, “Strengthening Social Integration and Employment Programs for Justice-Involved Individuals with Addiction Problems” is part of the project, “Strengthening Therapeutic Communities and Treatment Centers in Latin America with Italian Cooperation” (FOCTALI, by its Spanish language acronym). It is a series of six thematic events starting on June 11 and continuing on June 18, 24, and September3, 17 and 28. This technical workshop is aimed at experts from national drug commissions and professionals working in social integration programs for drug-related offenders in therapeutic communities and treatment centers, as well as those involved in the design and implementation of social integration and employment programs. The workshop seeks to enhance the knowledge on best practices on social and occupational integration and features international experts from Africa, Europe and the Americas. The technical workshop, offered by invitation only, is organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the OAS, with financial support of the Government of Italy and will have interpretation in English and Spanish.

This program is supported by the United States Permanent Mission to the OAS.

Workshop on Administration of Forfeited Assets in Peru: “Challenges in the Operational Implementation of Current Legislation”

This workshop is intended for public officials of the agencies that are part of the Anti-Money Laundering System and members of the Commission against Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (CONTRALAFT). This course seeks to improve officials’ knowledge of  laws on money laundering, non-conviction based asset forfeiture, confiscation and administration of confiscated assets in Peru. This virtual event is organized by the Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC) of the OAS, the Embassy of the United States in Lima, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Fund Administration of Peru, and the National Program of Seized Assets (PRONABI) of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Peru.

Online Course: “Ship and Container Yard Planning”

This course, available by invitation only, is intended for port officials from National Port Authorities of the OAS member states who will learn about the internationally accepted elements for planning operations on board container ships, their utility in order to avoid reducing the rate of loading and unloading of the ships while taking care of their stability, and their correlation in the organization of storage both outgoing and incoming in the container yard. Conference on "Women, Peace and Security”

Change of Command of the Chairman of the IADB Council of Delegates 

During the changeover ceremony, Major General of the Brazilian Army Luciano José Penna, will hand over to the new Chair of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) Council of Delegates, Vice Admiral of the Brazilian Navy Alexandre Rabello de Faria, who will serve as Chair of the board for the period 2021-2021. The virtual ceremony will be attended by Ambassadors of the OAS member states, delegates of the member countries and observer countries of the IADB, among others.

Third Meeting of National Authorities on Transnational Organized Crime 

During this event, OAS member states will discuss emerging threats and opportunities in relation to transnational organized crime (TOC), as well as strengthening global and hemispheric efforts to address TOC. Member states will also analyze the draft Hemispheric Strategy against TOC and the draft Recommendations of the National Authorities on the matter, among other topics.  The meeting will be chaired by the Government of the United States with the support of the Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC) in its role as technical secretariat. The meeting will include interpretation in the four official languages of the OAS:  English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

The virtual workshop is intended for island policymakers, regulators, and senior government leaders in charge of energy procurement in the Caribbean.
