Family Resources Programs Summer Newsletter

Hello and Welcome to our new MPNH Family Resource Programs Newsletter - 2021 Spring-Summer and beyond issue!

What is this newsletter about? This is an informative space of featured articles, community online, in-person links and the FRP calendar. We welcome your feedback and also want to invite you to write your thoughts on current issues to be shared in future newsletters.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically affected our daily lives and our family dynamics.  We welcome your reflections about how you coped with the challenges of dealing with the pandemic and ideas on how you continue to navigate and adjust to the "new normal".  Please contact Carmen at ccontreras@mpnh.org.  We'd love to hear from you!  (our next issue is in August-September).

We also want to extend our solidarity to all Indigenous families in light of the recent news about the remains of the 215 children found in a mass grave at the Kamloops Residential School.  Loss, grievance and reflection come to mind and are important to us as a community during these difficult times in Canadian Society.

Please check our calendar at the end of this issue. We have our summer programs returning including a "Walking in the 'hood" new program that started on June 1st!  Join us!

Please connect with us and keep engaged!

- MPNH FRP Staff - Lina, Melanie, Angelo, Nilda and Carmen.

Special thanks to Saadiyah Daud for helping to put this newsletter together.

Mental Health During COVID-19

"Many children and teens have had an especially hard time coping with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. As more people get COVID-19 vaccines, there is growing hope that pressures of the pandemic will ease. But the struggles and losses of the past year will likely continue to affect families for some time to come. Continue to check in with your child often and watch and listen for signs they are struggling. And remember that your pediatrician is here to help."
