With the arrival of Spring, we can all take comfort knowing there will be brighter days ahead. The past 12 months brought numerous challenges for all of us as we experienced the difficulty and sadness of living through a pandemic.
Early on, cairns, which are stacks of carefully balanced rocks, started to appear on Southport Beach. The simple act of balancing stones requires patience and the physical effort of creating balance. As the number of cairns multiplied, it was clear more and more people were seeking solace by visiting Southport Park and our beautiful lakefront.
Our parks play a significant role in the overall health and well-being of our community by offering us a place to spend time in nature. Southport Park Association was founded on that very premise. It has been our ongoing mission to connect people, parks, and preservation, in an effort to foster appreciation and ensure enduring environmental stewardship of all our parks for the benefit and enjoyment of our community and future generations.
It has been a while since you last heard from us, but we have been busy behind the scenes and many exciting plans are moving forward.
In this issue we bring you up to date on the progress of the beach house renovations, the proposed Conceptual Landscape Plan for Southport Park as well as the launch of our new website. You will also learn about upcoming events with our community partners.
We welcome your involvement and thank you for your continued support.
