Why Keep It Up-to-date?

Here we are in 2022 already! Our GiveSmartOKC team works hard to provide the resources you need to make your profile shine. I encourage you to engage with them whenever you need help so your profile can tell the best story possible. With your help, we can ensure the public has a rich experience on GiveSmartOKC with a broad presentation of nonprofits and up-to-date information.

Your GiveSmartOKC profile tells a story your donors won't see anywhere else. It's a story of discipline, putting together a robust budget and presenting the areas of greatest need and how your organization meets those needs. It's a story of board oversight, fulfilling the duties of care, loyalty and obedience. It's a story of transparency, showing that your tax-free income is being spent wisely and appropriately.

To be sure, many of your donors may respond to your fundraising appeals without question, but at the Community Foundation, we take a long view of support and focus on creating sustainable funding for your mission. In the most simplistic terms, this takes the form of endowment gifts or planned gifts. For those donors who may be in a position to support your organization with a strategic or transformational gift, the information available in your GiveSmartOKC profile can prove vital to a decision to support your organization in a meaningful way.

As our donor services team works with donors and fields questions about effective community investment, we'd like to be able to reference your GiveSmartOKC profile for deeper research. For our staff, that starts with your 990, but GiveSmartOKC takes a lot of your 990 information and displays it in a much more user-friendly way, allowing you to expand on basic information and tell a rich story. For example, if a donor wants to know that your board has put appropriate policies and controls in place, they can view not only the names of your board members but also those policies that answer the IRS questions in form 990.

COE Spotlight

Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma is known for their SPEAK OUT!® Speech Therapy and The LOUD Crowd®, but who knew they would start off their endowment with such a bang! Establishing the endowment fund at OCCF in late 2020, they had plans to grow their fund consistently over three years. Their one year mark saw them blow right past their three-year goal, and they show no signs of quieting down!

GiveSmart Tips for Transparency

Last month, our GiveSmartOKC organizations with a December 31 fiscal year end received a reminder encouraging them to update their profile before it expires in mid-February. If that includes you, please reach out for any help you need. We <3 our GiveSmartOKC partners!
