Putting DE&I on the Agenda

Letter from BeyondGenderAgenda CEO, Victoria Wagner

Since the launch of the BeyondGenderAgenda in early 2020, our initiative has been dedicated to moving the German economy towards more diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I am proud to say that in only one short year, we have achieved fantastic progress. Our board is now comprised of over 30 leading economic, political, and social voices who are focusing their efforts on not only supporting BGA, but also establishing DE&I initiatives within their own ventures. We have recognized a number of innovative companies such as Vodafone, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), and Deutsche Bahn, through our German Diversity Awards. Our 2020 German Diversity Monitor not only demonstrated where our country is in regard to quantifying DE&I efforts, but the direction we must head towards if we hope to achieve true social and economic inclusion. And most recently, we launched our official Diversity Certification, which gives companies the opportunity to be certified for their comprehensive diversity commitment through independent and data-led verification.

Our next step in growing opportunities, connecting networks, and informing economic leaders is what you are reading, right now: the launch of the BeyondGenderAgenda E-Newsletter. With each edition, we will provide our dedicated community with insights and resources that will support you in your own DE&I efforts. Through our newsletter, we will bring you exclusive conversations with industry leaders, vital DE&I data, and a deeper look into our work.

We are committed to not only making DE&I top of mind for business leaders, but an integral part of the German economy and that commitment will only grow as our community of supporters and partners continue to work alongside us. That is why we have an array of new reports, partnerships, and releases in the works, and we are looking forward to sharing them with you very soon.

The Beauty of Diversity: Major Retailer Earns First Certification from BGA

BeyondGenderAgenda (BGA) is now offering diversity certification for companies that have firmly anchored diversity, equity, and inclusion into their DNA. Global beauty retailer, Douglas, has received the first full certification and will soon be highlighting the achievement via a global campaign showing the beauty of diversity. Leading Voices

BeyondGenderAgenda has partnered with a number of leading voices in DE&I who are sharing their experiences and inspirations when it comes to creating a more diverse economy. Dedicated board member, Juliane Schmitz-Engelsas is BGA’s Diversity Driver of the Month and with her focus on promoting gender diversity in FinTech, Juliane, along with MasterCard, is working to bring more women into leadership with programs like the Girls4Tech initiative.

Board Member for Human Resources and Legal Affairs at Deutsche Bahn, Martin Seiler is voicing his support for DE&I in our #3QuestionsTo social media campaign. Martin shares how DE&I is an everyday reality at DB and that he believes equitable opportunities are a central pillar for a successful business and open society.

And starting today, BGA will be lifting up leading voices every week on the new podcast On the Agenda. CEO and founder Victoria Wagner, along with notable guests, will discuss all things business and DE&I. Her first guest is social mobility advocate and Netzwerk Chancen Founder, Natalya Nepomnyashcha. Industry Innovator: How Zalando is Creating a DE&I Focused Business

BGA partner company, Zalando, is a dedicated DE&I champion. With the release of their recent diversity and inclusion report, they have made a firm and public commitment to DE&I. This transparent self-evaluation, along with the creation of various internal inclusion efforts, is creating a company DE&I strategy that is based on data, progress, and eliminating barriers.
