Time to Get Out and About!
(we'll help)

It's going to be warm, eventually, and your library card provides opportunities for free or discounted access to recreational destinations state-wide. Two popular programs will start their 2014 season in May. Details are updated as they become available on our website.

The Michigan Activity Pass program runs year-round, but is expanding for 2014 to offer Library cardholders free or reduced-fee admission, or other discounts at more than 70 arts and cultural institutions statewide. You can search the listings and print your passes at the MAP website. The 2014 list will debut beginning May 24.

Mi Big Green Gym
You can check out a free vehicle admission for any State Park or Recreation Area from the Library through this program, a partnership between the Michigan DNR, The Michigan Recreation and Park Association,  and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. It is scheduled to begin its 2014 season on May 16.

Booked for the Evening
The Brighton District Library Board of Trustees is thankful for the tremendous show of support from the community and the generosity of donors, sponsors, and guests who helped to make the 2014 Booked for the Evening gala a resounding success.
The names of these individuals, businesses, and organizations can be seen on the Library website.

A special thank you goes to Anne Belser, Dr. Katherine Lawrence, RoseAnna Botorowicz, the Friends of the Brighton District Library, and to the staff and volunteers who made this event possible.

This year’s gala raised more than $15,000 from ticket sales, live and silent auction items, and other donations. Proceeds will go toward resources for independent access to information, such as large print books, closed captioned DVDs, sensory and learning toys, magnifiers, touch screen computer monitors, large key/print computers, and paved walkways in Millie’s Garden.

What Matters To You at the Library?
Thank you to everyone who responded to last month's questions about how much some general categories of library services matter to you. Here are the percentages of responses that gave each category an 8, 9, or 10, indicating that it was highly important to that person:
Book collections:  95%
Audiobooks, DVDs, or other media:  77%
Ebooks, or other online services:  65%
Computers, or other public technology:  47%
Library events and programs:  62%
Assistance of Library staff:  82%

Apologies to those who found the mechanics of having a separate thank you window open for each poll response annoying. The poll functionality is limited by the technology we use to create the newsletter, but we will keep this in mind for future questions.
We are always happy to hear from you. You can submit your thoughts or questions about the Library and our services through the newsletter comment form here. Thanks!
