#140confDM Debrief

I attended a pretty amazing conference in Des Moines last week.
The key focus of the conference is on how real time technology (twitter, Facebook are two examples) is changing business, agriculture, media, education, sports, celebrity – everything. Speakers present in 10 to 20 minute segments. The #140conf events provide a platform for the worldwide twitter community to: listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time internet on business.
Visit the blog post I wrote to view some of the speakers in action…

Facebook launches question-and-answer feature

If some of you haven’t noticed this already, Facebook has launched a question-and answer feature. The new feature which has been rolled out to all users (to activate click here), shows up at the top of your News Feed and Profile pages as a share option along with status updates, photos, links and videos.

Millions of people turn to Facebook to ask their friends questions, but think about how this new feature could benefit your business. What types of questions could you ask the Fans of your FanPage that would help you understand them a bit better: What is your favorite night of the week to go out for dinner? How often do you get your oil changed? What’s most important to you when choosing an interior designer?

Your questions are posed to the entire Facebook community. You can also add a photo or set up a poll with a limited number of answers for more targeted querying. Just type in the question, then click "Add Poll Options" and fill it in with specific answers.

Perhaps the most important factor to consider, though, before going forth and seeking wisdom is that Facebook Questions has no privacy settings. All questions and answers are "public and visible to everyone on the Internet," according to Facebook. If you just want to get your friends' opinions, Facebook suggests you pose your question as a status update.

10 Time Management Tips that Work
  • Carry a schedule and record all your thoughts, conversations and activities for a week
  • Any activity or conversation that’s important to your success should have a time assigned to it
  • Plan to spend at least 50% of your time engaged in the thoughts…
  • Schedule time for interruptions
  • Take the first 30 minutes of every day to plan your day
  • Take five minutes before every call and task to decide what result you want to attain
  • Put up a “Do not disturb” sign
  • Practice not answering the phone
  • Block out other distractions
  • Remember that it’s impossible to get everything done

About Stein's Way Suzanne is a Des Moines transplant who has realized the Power of being a Free Agent. Well-versed in many and varied skills, she has a passion for helping organizations and people achieve their potential. Suzanne = wife, traveler, multi-linguist, triathlete and cook.

I initially meet Suzanne through the Unemployed in Des Moines networking group she started. I was instantly inspired by her enthusiasm, initiative and resourcefulness in successfully creating her own consulting business – Contemporary Business Solutions. I recently attended her Social Media Workshop Series which I would highly recommend as a wonderful introductory source to gain instant knowledge in social media. She continues to be a key mentor as I now navigate developing my own consulting business. Her multi-faceted business expertise coupled with her “get it done” attitude proves to be a great resource for both start-up and well established companies.
