Lost & Found
The Lost & Found is currently located in the cafeteria by the double doors to go out to the classrooms. We may move it to near the office when there is a big school event in the gym.
Deaf Awareness Week Book Orders
We'll donate unclaimed items before the winter, spring, and summer break to Clothes for Kids, a local charity that helps families in need in our area.
We check for names in each item, and if we see a name we'll try our best to get it back to you. If you are on MIT Facebook page, we'll most likely message you via Messenger. If not, but if we could find out your child's center, we'll probably email your classroom coordinator who then can contact you. If we see no name, there is practically nothing we can do, so please label your child's items, especially if they are prone to losing things. Thank you. Flyer is at IMG_6473.jpeg.
September is Deaf Awareness Month and during the week of September 23-27 Madrona celebrates Deaf Awareness Week. Nancy Churnin, author of The William Hoy Story, will visit Madrona on Friday Sept 27th. The William Hoy Story is the story of William Ellsworth Hoy, a deaf baseball player who played a major role in professional baseball history and the struggles he faced during his journey. Ms. Churnin will tell us more on Friday September 27!
Deaf Awareness Week
The William Hoy Story as well as Ms. Churnin’s other published books, will be available at wholesale with free shipping to Madrona families. Classroom Coordinators will be sending the order form home with students and will have it available electronically.
Book orders are due (with exact cash or check made out to MIT) by October 1, 2019.
Dear Madrona Community,
Deaf Awareness Week is coming the week of 9/23- 27! Here is a sneak peak of what is to come:
~Each center/homeroom receives a kit with a button and pencil for each person.
~Morning Meetings for the week will be provided that include teaching basic signs, ASL games, short videos or Deaf culture facts, etc for teachers to incorporate or follow as works for them.
~Friday, September 27th is our all school assembly, 10am- 10:40am. Thawin Choulaphan will MC our assembly and Skype visit with author Nancy Churnin, who will teach us about the person and process behind her children's book The William Hoy Story. It is who Hoy center is named after! This was provided to our school at no cost, with an opportunity to purchase autographed copies of her books. Look for information on how to order in a separate email from your parent coordinator.
*We want to encourage staff and students to wear any Deaf Culture/ ASL shirt or gear they might have on Friday, September 27th for the assembly. (Deaf Awareness T shirt, Madrona ASL t shirt, other source from retailers, etc.)
~Posters featuring our Deaf staff will be put up in the commons, and trivia questions for students per level about our Deaf staff are posted!
~Centers and Homerooms can sign up to have a visit from a Deaf Staff member, where they learn about them, answer questions, join a Morning Meeting, or just get to know each other better.
Thank you for your support for another great Deaf Awarness Week! Flyer is at DAW2019.jpg.

It’s less than two months until Halloween, so you know what that means. It’s time to start planning for this year’s Bear Scare!
Bear Scare is Madrona's biggest party of the year, with over 100 volunteers, and up to 1,000 students, parents, friends and family members in attendance each year. Featuring costumes, games, food, crafts, a pumpkin-carving contest, cupcake walk, haunted house, and more, it's fun for all ages, and the one Madrona event you won't want to miss!
And, for the second-straight year, we're building this year's Bear Scare from scratch in an all-new environment — and we need your help! Join us in the lounge outside the office for a planning meeting next Friday, Sept. 20, at 12:45 p.m. (just after school on the half-day), and be a part of creating an all-new Bear Scare look and layout for our beautiful new school. Whether you're crafty, artsy, or just have a lot of opinions, we WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! :)
Questions? Email this email. Or, bring them to the meeting on Friday -- Team Bear Scare will see you there! Flyer is at MeetingFlyer.jpg.
