Inspiring Keynote and Speakers to Help Artists Map Out Their Success

Artpreneur Ottawa Conference Nov 5, 2016 Program Reveal

(Ottawa, Ontario) This year’s Artpreneur Ottawa Conference, presented by Alterna Savings, will give artists the directions to map out their journey to success. At the Shenkman Arts Centre on Saturday, November 5, 2016 conference delegates will engage in conversations and explore approaches to working and thriving in a capital city.

Delivered by successful Ottawa artists and arts groups, this year’s keynote and panel speakers, will inspire local and emerging artists to stay and create in the National Capital. The fourth annual Artpreneur Ottawa Conference 2016 will share insights about how to operate and grow in this unique environment.

Keynote Address:
The keynote address will be delivered by an inspiring trio of speakers with one of Canada’s most accomplished singer-songwriters Lynn Miles, theatre creator and producer and the first CBC Radio One (Q) artist-in-residence Adrienne Wong and contemporary visual artist Jinny Yu recently presented at the Venice Biennale. All three speakers have presented their work locally, nationally and internationally. They will share their various paths and discuss the career decisions that put them on the map. From finding success at the community level to the international stage, from finances to creative output, this keynote will be a dynamic multidisciplinary conversation about the diverse landscapes in which artists work and how they structure meaningful careers.
Program Highlights:
Delegates will have the opportunity to build their own Artpreneur path by choosing from a variety of speaker panels. They can learn about designing a creative business map with RedBrick Rooster, or take part in a discussion with touring theatre artist Nancy Kenny and folk musician Lynne Hanson about “making it work” locally, provincially and nationally. Learn about finding other sources of funding with host Michael Wallack owner of Wallack's Art Supplies and Dan Gainsford of Windpath Media, or find out how to navigating Ottawa’s media landscape with Jessica Ruano, theatre producer and founder of the podcast Just Another Gala. In the afternoon the award-winning Kimothy Walker will discuss marketing strategies, while Tara Shannon of Willow Sound Artist Development and Megan Piercey Monafu of CSArt Ottawa discuss the role of collaboration in the arts. Each session will provide multiple opportunities for Ottawa visual and performing artists to have meaningful exchanges.
