Friends,

This week, we were in New Mexico with Vice Chair Yvette Herrell (NM-02) to learn more about how energy production supports rural communities, the state's budget, and American energy independence.

I was proud to be joined by Vice Chairs Pete Stauber (MN-08) and Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), as well as Reps. Cliff Bentz (OR-02) and Ronny Jackson (TX-13) as we met with local energy producers and community leaders to see firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing New Mexico's oil and gas industry.

It is field tours like these that allow us, as Western Caucus Members, to educate our colleagues about the issues facing our country, and New Mexico is at the forefront of the Biden Administration's assault on domestic energy production. See more about what we were up to this week below!

Sincerely,
Chairman Dan Newhouse
CHAMPIONING ENERGY PRODUCTION IN THE LAND OF ENCHANTMENT
ENERGY POLICY ROUNDTABLE
Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) and Vice Chair Yvette Herrell (NM-02) kicked off our policy roundtable with a shared message: American energy production is under attack, and it is rural communities, like those in New Mexico, who suffer from the Biden Administration's anti-energy policies.

The roundtable featured three panels discussing the importance of New Mexico's oil and gas industry, from strengthening American energy and national security to leading in technological advancements that reduce emissions and generating critical funding for the state.

Oil and gas revenues make up approximately 45% of the state's budget and provide funding for public schools, infrastructure projects, childcare, and more. Without this energy production, not only would families and businesses in New Mexico's rural communities experience job losses and a severe downturn in economic activity, but the United States would face even more uncertainty about our energy security. Members and panelists stressed the importance of hearing from these communities and energy producers firsthand to help share the story of the oil and gas industry and strengthen domestic energy production.

NM's 2nd district has a strong voice in Congress
By Reps. Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Pete Stauber (MN-08), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Cliff Bentz (OR-02), and Ronny Jackson (TX-13)

Rep. Herrell has worked tirelessly to defend the way of life in her district, ensure the voices of New Mexicans are heard and unleash American energy dominance. We are proud to join her, in her district, to do the same.

DELIVERING CLEAN, EFFICIENT NATURAL GAS
NEW MEXICO NATURAL GAS TRAINING CENTER
Members, staff, and stakeholders also had the opportunity to tour the New Mexico Natural Gas Training Center where they are working to ensure workforce safety and energy efficiency for residents throughout the state.

New Mexico Gas actively strives to ensure efficient delivery of natural gas to the communities of Albuquerque and is working to integrate new technologies like hydrogen blending to reduce their carbon footprint. While they are making great progress, they still face several challenges, including the lack of pipeline and transmission infrastructure. Without permitting reform, natural gas producers and energy companies in New Mexico and across the country will continue to experience roadblocks in delivering power to homes and businesses.
ENERGY SECURITY IS NATIONAL SECURITY
SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORY
As Western Caucus Members know, energy security is national security. The group visited Sandia National Laboratory to learn about the world-class research they are doing to support activities at the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and within private industry.

Sandia researchers are working to solve challenges that states like New Mexico and other across the West experience, like water shortages that impact our ability to produce energy, and improve technologies we use for oil, natural gas, and geothermal energy exploration.

From developing cutting edge microelectronics to advanced solar technologies, the scientists and researchers at Sandia are working to ensure that our nation is strong, secure, and capable of responsibly producing energy right here at home.
