Data Quality News

Change Is not an event it’s a process
Author unknown--

The Data Quality Team meets monthly to discuss topics related to data, coding questions and a liaison to the Maryland HSCRC and other professional groups.

It is that time of year to change to the FY 2019 CM/PCS code system. You can begin using the FY2019 ICD-10 CM/PCS codes on October 1, 2018. The number of changes occurring annually is slowing down since ICD-10 CM/PCS has been implemented for a few years and the code freeze has been lifted. It is a great time to review your checklist of departments that use ICD-10 CM or PCS codes. It is also important to review documents and tools those departments use that contain codes. All forms reviewed and/or materials developed should include an annual revised review date. Some areas to focus on include electronic dictionaries, chargemaster, paper/electronic encounter forms, training coders, management and clinical team including providers. In addition to the actual code changes there are guideline updates for each area this year. A snapshot of the changes is noted below.
