March 2019

President's Message

Good Day Everyone!!
I hope you all are enjoying life and following your dreams. I am so very excited about some of the things happening within MSHIMA. It is getting to be the time of year for our state election and we are happy to be rolling out a strong ballet for the membership to vote. Typically we do not have a very strong voter turnout for the state nor the national AHIMA election, and I would like to see that change. Please make an effort to be an active part of MSHIMA and use your voting voice to help determine the future of HIM.
It is also time for award nominations. Many times the only submissions we have are from Board Members. I believe many deserving people miss out on the recognition they deserve because no one takes the time to honor them with a submission. All of the information you need to complete a submission can be found on the MSHIMA website. If you would like please contact a member of the Nominating Committee and they will be happy to discuss this process with you.

Another exciting thing I would like to tell you about is several of the HIM educators and HIM industry leaders in Mississippi met recently at Mississippi State University to work on a curriculum for an HIT program to be introduced in the high school setting. We believe this will help propel the interest of many young people into our field. We believe that we created a well-rounded overview of what HIT is and the many career paths it can afford to graduates. The program will be voluntary for school districts, but we will be working with them to understand the benefits of offering this to their students. There is also a need for instructors in this endeavor. If this is something you would consider as a possible career change, please reach out to us.
We are putting the finishing touches on the state meeting. Please visit the website for an agenda and registration. We are going to have a link to order T-shirts but that has not been posted. We hope to have that up in the next week or two.
Have a blessed month and reach out to us if you have any needs.
