Spotlight on the PHIMA Student Liaisons

Submitted by: Lesia Peck, MS, RHIA, PMP, CHDA, CHPS, CPHIMS
Upon careful consideration, the PHIMA board has selected three Student Liaisons this year based on their skills, commitment to a career in HIM, and their written communication. We are excited to share the PHIMA Board’s selections for the Student Liaison role.

The 2018-2019 PHIMA Student Liaisons

Jackmely Hernandez: Jackie is a student at Peirce College and is enrolled in the Health Information Administration program.
“It would be a great honor to serve as the PHIMA Student Liaison. In our classes, we often discuss AHIMA and how important the organization is for those of us aspiring HIM professionals so to be able to actually work with members of the organization would be amazing. As the liaison I would have the opportunity to learn from the best HIM professionals in our state, the knowledge that I would gain from this experience is truly priceless but more importantly it would allow me the opportunity to give back to my school and classmates by sharing what I learn with them and explain to them the benefits of being part of an organization such as this one. As my professor mentioned in her nomination email, I have been looking for ways to “pay it forward” and I cannot think of a better opportunity than this.”
Kathleen Baumer: Kathleen is a student at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
“After graduation, I plan on starting my career in health information. PHIMA will help me be successful because I will make connections as well as gain professional experiences. Attending conferences are great for learning new information regarding my future career.”
Zoe Delozier: Zoe is a student at the University of Pittsburgh and is enrolled in their Health Information Management program.
“I would love to serve as the Student Liaison to PHIMA as it will be a great opportunity to learn more about HIM and the health-care field in general. I believe this opportunity will provide me with skills and connections that will help me begin my full-time career in HIM.”
Please join me in congratulating the students who have been awarded the Student Liaison role with PHIMA! The PHIMA executive board members look forward to working with them on projects and initiatives in this new year.
