RHIT to RHIA Proviso

Hello PHIMA Members,

Now is the time for those who hold the RHIT certification to take advantage of the time-limited provision of the HIM Reimagined Initiative to prepare HIM professionals for jobs of the future. The RHIT to RHIA proviso started July 1, 2017 and is effective through December 31, 2021. The member with an RHIT needs to have received a baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution or nationally-recognized accreditor and received their RHIT credential on or before December 31, 2018 and have complied with the Standards for Maintenance of the RHIT credential.

Please note the timelines listed above. We are quickly approaching the December 31, 2018 deadline for the baccalaureate degree or higher, so keep this in mind if you are interested in taking advantage of the proviso. I took advantage of the previous AHIMA RHIT to RHIA proviso in 2000. It is a fantastic opportunity to advance your credentials and career.

I have attached a link to the AHIMA website and information on how to apply, example RHIA test questions and the application.

Good luck and it is a great way to manage your career.
