WHIMA Fall Conference - Registration opens in July
September 13, 2018
Bridgewood Resort Hotel

Message from the WHIMA President Betty Rockendorf, MS, RHIA, CHPS, CHTS-IM

Betty RockendorfThe WHIMA Board had our first meeting for 2018-19 and we are off to an excellent start! I am very pleased to be working with such passionate and energetic HIM professionals!  One of our first items on the agenda was to approve two new positions for WHIMA:

A Communication Liaison will develop a communication system/plan, and coordinate communication to you, our members. We will primarily utilize these e-Alerts, as well as AHIMA’s Engage Communities, and work to expand communication through various social media platforms such as Facebook and Linked In. Some of our former teams had either disbanded or needed updating to provide information in real time in a format that allows readers to keep abreast of changes. For 2018-19, the Communication Liaison position will be piloted by Vicky Wolf, former Editor of the Link Newsletter.

A Member Engagement Liaison will plan member engagement activities and work to increase volunteerism in WHIMA through networking, mentoring and promoting HIM Awareness. This new Liaison will develop a volunteer recruitment plan and coordinate efforts with the Communication Liaison to solicit for volunteers, connect mentees with mentors, design and run a booth at the Annual Conference, explore networking events, and promote WHIMA and the HIM profession. The former Ambassador Team had been responsible for many of these tasks, but had disbanded. It was time to refresh and resurrect this very important function for WHIMA. For 2018-19, the Member Engagement Liaison position will be piloted by Kari Bjorge.

Please note that both the Communication Liaison and the Member Engagement Liaison are seeking volunteers to pitch in and help.  Watch for more news about that in the future. The WHIMA Board is encouraging a new outlook on volunteering, understanding that today’s busy professionals may not be able to commit time to 3- 6- 9- or 12-month engagements, but rather are looking for shorter commitments to serve on specific projects that take less time but are equally important!  And, the more volunteers we cultivate, the more we can spread the work around.

Full details can be found on AHIMA’s RHIA webpage, under the "RHIT to RHIA Proviso" tab.
