Workers Compensation Release of Information (ROI) Requests
Best Practices for ROI Challenges

by WHIMA Policy and Legislative Action Team

Healthcare providers play a critical role in the Worker’s Compensation process due to their role in managing the health of the injured worker. The health records created by the provider are critical reference documents for the injured worker, employer, and insurer. There are many challenges for the health information management (HIM) professional in creating, maintaining, retaining, and disclosing Worker’s Compensation patient health records. These Best Practices, identified by WHIMA’s Policy and Legislative Team, attempt to identify recommendations for Wisconsin HIM professionals in understanding and responding to Worker’s Compensation ROI Requests.
