Dear Friends of LEAF,

Did you know that fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs?

The urban forest is all around us and includes the trees, shrubs, ground covers and more. This natural bounty can be found in our parks, ravines and even backyards. LEAF works with property owners to plant native trees and shrubs on commercial and residential properties to help grow a diverse and sustainable urban forest!

The good news is that our subsidized Backyard Tree Planting Program is available throughout the fall! Through the season, our arborists will continue to help property owners select the right trees and shrubs for their property and deliver or plant them! Please, help us share our good news story with your community, networks and friends by…
  • Including information about these opportunities in your newsletter (see content below that you can simply copy and paste)
  • Sharing links to our programs on social media (sample tweets below)
  • Distributing brochures in your neighbourhood, at meetings or through your office (fill in this form, and I'll mail you a package!)
By planting trees on private property or participating in one of our many engagement programs, your community, networks and friends will have the opportunity to help grow the urban forest in a meaningful and tangible way! But, first, they need to know about these opportunities.

Thank you for considering sharing this information. Your help and support are extremely valuable to us!

If you have any questions, please reach out. I’m here to help.

Fall Is a Great Time to Plant!

Did you know that fall is a great time to plant? Temperatures are cooler and trees are beginning to go into dormancy for winter. When trees are dormant, they experience less transplant shock and settle nicely into their new homes! Local non-profit LEAF is planting native trees and shrubs this fall through their subsidized Backyard Tree Planting Program, available to houses, multi-units and business/industrial properties. For more information, visit LEAF or call 1-888-453-6504.

Why Plant Native?

The term “native species” refers to vegetation that grew naturally in southern Ontario prior to European settlement. There are many benefits to planting native trees, shrubs and perennials, such as:
  • Growing the urban forest while preserving its natural biodiversity
  • Providing essential food and shelter to pollinators, songbirds and other wildlife
  • Requiring less care, once established, as they are well adapted to the environmental conditions found here
LEAF offers over 50 native tree and shrub species at subsidized rates for private property owners through the Backyard Tree Planting Program. The program includes a personalized consultation with a certified arborist to ensure you’re planting the right species for the environmental conditions on your property. For more information, visit LEAF or call 1-888-453-6504.
