"It would not be possible to make the rapid responsive grants that we are able to make right now without the great coming together and the generosity of everyone in our community. It's a moment that we can all be very proud of. It’s the collaborative spirit of this region at work once again."

    – Lisa Schroeder, The Pittsburgh Foundation
While a lot may be different right now, one thing is the same: Pittsburghers are looking out for one another.

This week we spotlight another individual who is working tirelessly to look out for our region and its people: Lisa Schroeder, President and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Earlier in March, soon after the CDC determined the severity of the crisis, The Pittsburgh Foundation sprung to action to create the $4 million Emergency Action Fund in collaboration with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the region’s other three largest foundations — the Richard King Mellon Foundation, the Heinz Endowments and the Hillman Family Foundations. To date, The Pittsburgh Foundation donors and the business community have contributed $600,000 to the fund. And they’re not stopping there. The fund will work in three phases: issuing three large grants to public resources, issuing grants to nonprofit organizations in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Beaver counties and continuing aggressive grant making and fundraising. In addition, The Pittsburgh Foundation is partnering with global law firm Jones Day and other local and national experts to offer a series of one-hour webinars addressing essential issues for nonprofit leaders.
