A Application Process for Financial Aid for Students from Latin America and the Caribbean to Study at Universities in the United States Open

The OAS, through the Rowe Fund, offers students from Latin American and Caribbean OAS member states  (F/J visa holders) interest-free loans, of up to US $15,000, to help them finance their studies or research at accredited universities in the United States. Application Period for OAS Scholarships for Advanced Courses in Capacity Building in Israel Continues

The OAS, through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE) and The Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI), offers scholarship opportunities for capacity building courses targeted to directors, administrators and planners from OAS member states  working in each sector of society.  The international programs are of short duration and are taught in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.

X Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education

Ministers of Education from the countries of the Americas will meet within the framework of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9 at OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C., to approve the Action Plan of Antigua & Barbuda: "Inter-American Educational Agenda (IEA): building sustainable partnerships through cooperation, with a renewed focus on education and development of skills for a better citizenship." The meeting will focus on sharing concrete initiatives for the implementation of the IEA, as a document aligned with the objectives set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, deepen synergies between global hemispheric and sub-regional education initiatives and promote intersectoral cooperation and with other social actors.

Cybersecurity Summer Bootcamp 2019

The OAS and the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), organizes a specialized cybersecurity training program aimed at technical personnel of incident response centers (CERTs or CSIRTs), law enforcement members of operational units related to cybersecurity and active personnel belonging to the law careers, state lawyers, officials of the administration of justice and personnel of regulatory or legislative bodies that work in areas related to the legal and regulatory aspects of cybersecurity.

First Inter-American Course on Electoral Governance with Gender Perspective

The objective of the course is to strengthen the electoral systems of Latin America by improving the capacity of the authorities, staff, and other professionals in the electoral field to promote and defend the political-electoral rights of women. The course has created a space for learning and sharing good practices from a comparative perspective on issues of gender parity, political parties, electoral financing, political violence, intercultural approaches and freedom of expression. The quota is limited to fifty participants, with no registration fee. It is organized by the OAS Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), the Central Electoral Board (Junta Central Electoral) and the Ministry of Women (Ministerio de la Mujer) of the Dominican Republic, and is sponsored by AMEXCID.

IV Annual Conference of the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction

The Fourth Annual Conference of the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) will be held in Cusco, Peru, July 22-23, 2019.  The conference will include panels and presentations on university academic programs and global research activities in the field of drug demand reduction.  Participants will include representatives from universities worldwide, together with national and international organizations working in the field.  The event is organized by the ICUDDR, in coordination with the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), which is the ICUDDR Regional Coordinating Center for Latin America and the Caribbean.

First Training Session to Strengthen Actions of the Local Response System to Address Human Trafficking in Honduras
This course for representatives of governmental and non-governmental entities seeks to contribute to the design of a comprehensive, inter-institutional and community-based response system for the assistance and protection of victims of human trafficking at the municipal and inter-municipal levels. It is organized by the OAS Department of Public Security, the Gino Germani Research Institute, University of Buenos Aires, the Interinstitutional Commission against Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking of Honduras (CICESCT), and the Secretariat of Security of Honduras, with support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

Working Group on Violence Prevention will Discuss Violence against Women in its Next Session in Honduras

As part of the Meeting of Ministers of Public Security process, the Subsidiary Technical Group for the Prevention of Violence, Crime and Insecurity will meet in Tela, Honduras to discuss the prevention and combating of violence against women, the participation of women in the security sector and the risk factors associated with the incarceration of women. Representatives of the member states and invited speakers from governmental organizations, civil society and academia will participate in the meeting. It is organized by the Department of Public Security of the OAS and the Secretariat of Security of Honduras.

XI Americas Competitiveness Forum and RIAC Meeting

The Americas Competitiveness Forum and the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) Meeting will gather ministers, high-level authorities, councils and competitiveness leaders to discuss “The Digital Transformation for Competitiveness in the Americas.” The event will promote in-depth discussions about strategies to overcome shared challenges on digitalization to foster economic integration and competitiveness in the region. The event is convened by the Government of Argentina, through the Minister of Production and Labor, and the OAS, as the RIAC Technical Secretariat.
