(LAD will be at Farmer's Market on THIS SATURDAY, July 14. Co-hosting the Confront Corruption/Demand Democracy Vigil, THIS WEDNESDAY Night, July 18, 8:15pm, 6th & Main. Walking the Boulder County Fair Parade August 4 — please join us! — and our Annual Summer Picnic is August 18 at Ollin Farms. Scroll down for details...thanks!)
CONTINUE TO CALL, TWEET, EMAIL, MAIL, RESIST: Every single Democrat HAS TO STAND TOGETHER and vote NO. Democrats standing strong WILL AFFECT VOTER TURNOUT. Make this a fight that the media HAS TO COVER every single day. If we have 49 NO votes, then Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) — who received the 2017 Planned Parenthood Barry Goldwater Award for being a reproductive rights champion and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who voted with Democrats to fund Planned Parenthood — need to be pressured to ALSO VOTE NO.
Since it isn't recommended to contact Murkowski or Collins if you don't live in Alaska or Maine, give a few bucks to Daily Kos, for instance, who'll need resources to motivate folks in Alaska and Maine to make calls.
Kavanaugh was part of the Starr investigation and has claimed to have had a "change of heart" about Presidents being under investigation while in office. DON'T BUY IT. His opinion seems to apply only to republican presidents, and it's why we think trump nominated him.
McConnell has said the 25-year paper trail of Kavanaugh will be "problematic". Let's make it their BIGGEST problem. Insist that all documents, including the ONE MILLION items from his tenure under Dubya are PROPERLY REVIEWED.
Dragging it out will motivate engagement in the midterms.
Dragging it out gives Mueller more time to indict trump.
CALL BENNET and let him know how much you care that he is standing with other Democrats, and that he is voting NO. Encourage him to have rallies, filibuster his position (he did it for healthcare, remember?), make noise, read letters from US — in support of his stand. Be creative in bringing attention to this egregious shift of the court.
Senator Michael Bennet(D): 202-224-5852 (DC) / 303-455-7600 (Denver). Or use RESISTBOT: Text "resist" to 50409.
And Cory? He said this TWO YEARS AGO, during the 293 days that Merrick Garland was Obama's rightful SCOTUS nominee: "Our next election is too soon and the stakes are too high; the American people deserve a role in this process as the next Supreme Court Justice will influence the direction of this country for years to come."
CALL CORY GARDNER and throw his hypocrisy back at him. Senator Cory Gardner (R): 202-224-5941 (DC) / 303-391-5777(Denver). Or use RESISTBOT: Text "resist" to 50409.
THAT'S WHY the 2018 MIDTERM is the most important election in our time. ELECT PROGRESSIVE State leaders to pass laws that PROTECT people in states from an extreme US Supreme Court. That means: Governors who will veto abortion restrictions and gerrymanders (encourage Jared to rally around this objective), state representatives and state senators who will expand labor and reproductive rights (especially when we need to secure a state senate majority — encourage them to make this an issue), Secretaries of State that will replace aggressive voter purges with robust voting rights agendas (Jena is on board with this, but show her your support and have discussions about this), and DAs that will refrain from cruel punishments like the death penalty. THIS IS WHY IT IS VITAL that you tell EVERYONE you know to VOTE THEIR WHOLE BALLOT this fall!
LONG TERM: Democrats need to make a core part of their platform establishing statehood for District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These residents are woefully underrepresented in our country, this could take decades to make possible, but we need to start now. It might be the one hopeful objective we can rally behind.
Believe it or not, how affective we are in this fight will MOTIVATE Democrats to turn out. Let Democratic leaders and candidates know that how they make a stand on this issue will give voters hope and they will VOTE. If they don't take a stand, folks will be frustrated and think their vote will not matter. But it matters now more than ever. Afterall...
WHY ARE WE HERE? Because turnout for the 2014 midterms (when we lost Mark Udall as our US Senator) was 36% — the lowest turnout in 72 years. That year, repugs gained NINE senate seats for the first time since 2006. 400 days later, Scalia died, Mitch McConnell committed the worst political theft in our nation's history, and blocked any hearing for President Obama's SCOTUS pick, Merrick Garland.
AND THEN THERE'S THIS: What about expanding the size of the court to 11, here?
OR, THIS: more Supreme Court strategies — from over a year ago, here.
READ THIS: Is there EVEN MORE corruption underlying the Kavanaugh pick? Mark Sumner from Daily Kos, here.
