"Something happened that reminded me of how far we have all come in the last four years and it was the funeral service for Congressman John Lewis. It was such a lovely send off, worthy of a man who has moved our country so far and stood out as a beacon of hope in the darkest of times. Listening to former presidents describe their love and admiration for a colleague with such elegance and dignity was a reminder that we are still a triumphant nation at our core, and the promise of our splendid democracy has just been asleep for a few years…lying in wait." — AMEE VANDERPOOL
TODAY, SATURDAY & ANY DAY: Longmont Leads with Love Weekly Vigil, Saturdays, 1–2pm, 6th and Main. When vigiling, to protect everyone’s health, please remember to wear a mask, maintain 6-foot social distancing, and be sure that no group is larger than 10 people. During Covid-19, the Longmont Leads with Love events have become a “rolling vigil”. No need to wait until Saturday at 1pm. Just go to 6th & Main whenever you can, for as long as you like. Carry your own message to the community in this hour of our nation’s desperate need and tremendous opportunity. You can still vigil at home too: stand in front of your home with the sign you would have brought to Main Street—or put the sign on your lawn or in your window — then take a picture and share it on social media!

Unfinished Work: Finish the Fight, Tuesday, August 18, 5pm. From the New York Times. A virtual play, celebrating the unsung heroes of suffrage. They were tireless organizers. Tenacious fighters. Yet their stories have rarely been told. Until now. RSVP, here.

URGENT DETENTION CENTER ACTION: Advocate for the return of 10 immigrant detainees from Teller County Jail BACK to ICE-GEO detention facility (Aurora), who are now in imminent danger: "At 7am on Saturday July 11 in the middle of this pandemic, over 100 men and women were chained around their wrists, ankles and waists and moved from GEO Aurora ICE Processing Center. Ten were transferred to Teller County Jail. These ten are now housed with those convicted through the criminal justice system including as cell mates rather than being kept among themselves. In this new facility, there are no protections against COVID—no masks, no social distancing." As we know, conditions were bad enough at the GEO facility, including toxic chemical sprays used against the virus but when in contact with detainees caused bleeding from the nose and more. Protestors have camped out adjacent to the detention center for more than 50 days. More, here. CONTACT Reps & Senators, urging safety and the return of these immigrant detainees:

National Organization for Women (NOW) is officially recognizing that the fight for the right for women to vote (100 years ago this year) did not guarantee that right to ALL women. And as we know, the white and elite women’s suffrage movement even banned African American women from participation — even though many still valiantly fought in other, important ways. In this NOW series, they are profiling individual women of color pioneers on social media, one a day until August 26. Go to www.now.org/100 for more info. More Sisters in Suffrage, here.

READ: THE GOP’s PLAN TO SUPPRESS THE VOTE AND SABOTAGE THE ELECTION, here. Did you know...the crazily conservative Heritage Foundation found that in the past TWENTY YEARS, vote by mail only garnered a 0.00006 chance of fraud? (Besides, the only people who are committing voter fraud seem to be republicans, here.)
STRATEGY: 1. EXPOSE their plan. SHARE WIDELY any and all reliable resources detailing their plan (check back here. We'll post resources regularly!). 2. EXPOSE, BOYCOTT & SHAME corporations that have packed their warchest (Ameritrade, Johnson & Johnson among others — read the article). 3. JOIN & STAY CONNECTED TO GROUPS who also seek to expose this plan and actively seek to PROTECT THE RESULTS — Indivisible has a Protect the Results Action Plan here, Stand Up America, here. Protect The Results, here. From Thom Hartmann
"Get it into the media and repeat it over and over again: “The GOP plans to claim ‘Democratic voter fraud’ in this election to steal the election for themselves, and they’re already getting people primed for it! Then, when the GOP starts screaming that some states where Trump lost “are in doubt” because of “voter fraud,” it’ll be seen as the scam that it is.” START NOW.
