Apologies for the length of this email, but as you can see, there is a LOT going on — and a lot YOU CAN DO — THANK YOU!
TODAY: THURSDAY, July 23, ACTION: CALL YOUR SENATORS and demand they pass the HEROES ACT IMMEDIATELY! Here's what it does, for the ENTIRE COUNTRY:
  • $4 billion in election funding to expand vote by mail and maintain safe in-person voting locations,
  • Any eligible voter in any state can request mail-in ballot for any reason, and can request it online
  • Bans states from throwing out ballots without giving the voter the opportunity to fix discrepancies
  • Requires mail-in ballots to include pre-paid postage
  • Same-day and online voter registration
  • Extended early voting days
  • Safety measures for in-person voting, including protective gear for poll workers
  • $25 billion in funding for the United States Postal Service!
Senator Michael Bennet(D): 202-224-5852 (DC)
303-455-7600 (Denver).
Senator Cory Gardner
(R): 202-224-5941 (DC)

OR USE RESISTBOT (text "resist" to 50409)

ALSO TODAY, THURSDAY, July 23, ACTION: From Colorado350org — "Please join us in calling on our Boulder County Commissioners to place a fracking ban measure on this November's ballot! The deadline for our Commissioners to alert the County Clerk that they want to place this measure on the ballot is THIS FRIDAY. We learned today that they are leaning against placing such a measure on the ballot and need to hear from all of us that regulations alone are not enough! Please help us make sure that our Commissioners know there is huge public support for placing a fracking ban question on the ballot." SEND letter, here. Outreach Toolkit, full of info, here.

ALSO TODAY, THURSDAY, July 23: WATCH: From MoveOn and other partners, THE SECOND, Anti-racism training! A livestream event series focusing on educating and organizing to be stronger allies and fully embrace a stance of anti-racism. RSVP to this Thursday, July 23 training, here. To view the June 11 event (very, very good!), and to sign up for future anti-racism trainings, go here. (You can also text ANTIRACISM to 668366)

TOMORROW, FRIDAY, July 24: SIGNATURES DUE SATURDAY!: Fair Tax Colorado POP UP Petition Location, Friday, July 24, ALL DAY (signatures notarized the next morning), 1126 4th Ave. SO IMPORTANT to sign, so that this initiative will be on your November ballot! Petition will be on porch. Please wear a mask, and bring your own pen! Sign petition to put Fair Tax Colorado onto the 2020 ballot! WHY?: 1. Give a tax cut to 95% of Coloradans. All Coloradans earning less than $250,000 a year will pay a lower income tax rate. 2. Guarantee funding for schools & teachers. Half of the $2 billion raised by creating a fair tax code will go toward increasing pay for our teachers & student support staff. 3. Ensure every Coloradan pays their fair share. It's unfair Colorado's middle class pays a larger share of their income in taxes than the top 5%. Asking the wealthiest Coloradans to pay a little more can make our tax code fair. Go to fairtaxcolorado.org for more information. LAD's May presentation on Fair Tax Colorado, here. OTHER LOCATIONS?: The Tracey Bernett for HD12 campaign also has Fair Tax Colorado petitions, go to info@traceybernett.com SIGNATURES ARE DUE July 25! Tell friends and family members in other cities to SIGN by finding other petition carriers close to them, here.

ANOTHER PETITION OPPORTUNITY (ALSO DUE JULY 25!): DID YOU KNOW, that your RTD Board Director, Judy Lubow is term limited? Judy worked very hard at making Northwest Rail (also known as the B-Line) a reality, and made great progress. But the fight continues. Judy is supporting a possible new candidate, Austin Ward, 24, recent graduate of CU (B.A. in Economics, Business minor), as well as an RTD Bus Driver. Here's what Austin said, "I understand the important role RTD plays in transporting the people of District I to areas across the Denver Metro Area for work, recreation, and pleasure, but I also recognize the limited accessibility many people have to RTD's services. As your representative to the RTD Board of Directors, I will work to accelerate completion of the B Line to Broomfield and Longmont, expand local and intercity bus service, lower fares, and make RTD work for you..." He needs signatures to get on to the 2020 ballot and the deadline is JULY 25! If you'd like the petition to be brought to you to sign, email Judy Lubow here, to set up a time and place to safely meet, ask questions about Austin and sign his petition to get onto the November ballot.

URGENT DETENTION CENTER ACTION: Advocate for the return of 10 immigrant detainees from Teller County Jail BACK to ICE-GEO detention facility (Aurora), who are now in imminent danger: "At 7am on Saturday July 11 in the middle of this pandemic, over 100 men and women were chained around their wrists, ankles and waists and moved from GEO Aurora ICE Processing Center. Ten were transferred to Teller County Jail. These ten are now housed with those convicted through the criminal justice system including as cell mates rather than being kept among themselves. In this new facility, there are no protections against COVID—no masks, no social distancing." As we know, conditions were bad enough at the GEO facility, including toxic chemical sprays used against the virus but when in contact with detainees caused bleeding from the nose and more. Protestors have camped out adjacent to the detention center for more than 50 days. More, here. CONTACT Reps & Senators, urging safety and the return of these immigrant detainees:

National Organization for Women (NOW) is officially recognizing that the fight for the right for women to vote (100 years ago this year) did not guarantee that right to ALL women. READ: THE GOP’s PLAN TO SUPPRESS THE VOTE AND SABOTAGE THE ELECTION, here. Did you know...the crazily conservative Heritage Foundation found that in the past TWENTY YEARS, vote by mail only garnered a 0.00006 chance of fraud? (Besides, the only people who are committing voter fraud seem to be republicans, here.)
STRATEGY: 1. EXPOSE their plan. SHARE WIDELY any and all reliable resources detailing their plan (check back here. We'll post resources regularly!). 2. EXPOSE, BOYCOTT & SHAME corporations that have packed their warchest (Ameritrade, Johnson & Johnson among others — read the article). 3. "Get it into the media and repeat it over and over again: “The GOP plans to claim ‘Democratic voter fraud’ in this election to steal the election for themselves, and they’re already getting people primed for it! Then, when the GOP starts screaming that some states where Trump lost “are in doubt” because of “voter fraud,” it’ll be seen as the scam that it is.” START NOW. It's great that Colorado's mail in ballot system is SECURE, TRANSPARENT & VERIFIABLE (our ballots are the "paper trail"), BUT we are only ONE of FIVE states with actual mail in ballots (the rest will have to rely on absentee ballots). Here's how ballots are cast in the US (from Daily Kos):
