"To spend one's life being angry, and in the process doing nothing to change it, is to me ridiculous. I could be mad all day long, but if I'm not doing a damn thing, what difference does it make?” — CHARLES FULLER

LAD MC Header

Happy 4th of July! THANKS to everyone who showed up at the Longmont Leads with Love Picnic on Saturday, and for all who are signing up for carpool to the Brush and Greeley 4th of July parades tomorrow!

HERE'S AN IDEA — Help other burgeoning progressive communities — Brush and Greeley, July 4: How about showing support and solidarity for Democrats in other 4th CD Colorado communities that are largely (for now) republican? Longmont used to be red and progressives living here didn't feel they had a voice. We changed that by connecting with other Democrats in our neighborhoods.
2 WAYS TO BOLSTER DEMOCRATIC PRIDE:
1. Morgan County Democrats at the Brush Rodeo "American Pride" Parade, Tuesday, July 4, 10am, Brush. (There's a Pancake Breakfast before the parade!) More info here.
2. Weld County Democrats, at the Greeley Stampede Parade, Tuesday, July 4, 8–8:30am, Weld County Dems float, behind UNC University Center, 2101 10th Ave. (Gardner might appear.) For more info, email here.
CONTACT LAD FOR CARPOOL info to either event here.

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has been invited and might be at the Niwot July 4 parade, here and here. How did local republicans not think this would be controversial?

SHOW UP: THIS Wednesday, July 5, 7pm (show up early if you want to sign in and speak) Longmont City Council Chambers, 4th & Kimbark, south of Library.
Council will be discussing whether or not to support Windy Gap and at what level (6,000, 8,000 or 10,000 acre-ft levels). Staff has stated that 6,000 acre-ft is more than enough to carry Longmont through a major drought — and would not raise water rates. Besides, let's ensure that an abundance of access to water does not entice Oil & Gas to use it for fracking in Longmont! Support CONSERVATION, WEAR BLUE, consider speaking, and SHOW UP!

Uh oh. NOT GOOD: Colorado's Secretary of State, Wayne Williams, will turn over Public Voter Lists to trump panel, here, and here. Call SOS at 303.894.2200 More on Kobach here.
(and what a Democratic SOS would do here.)

Longmont Rapid Response Training, Saturday, July 8, 12:30–3:30pm, Colorado Immigrant Rights Office, 1715 Ironhorse Dr. #130, Longmont. Learn how to help our neighbors who are targeted if ICE anti-immigrant raids come to our town.

Picnic with the Party BCDP Summer BBQ, Saturday, July 8, 5–9pm, Tom Watson Park, 6180 N. 63rd St., Boulder. Burgers, Brats and beverages will be available (vegetarian options, too). Bring a side dish to share.

"In this era of poisonous partisanship, The Reunited States of America is a lifesaving antidote. At a time when loyalty to a party seems to be overpowering love of country, it not only explains how we can bridge the partisanship divide but also tells the untold story of how our fellow citizens already are doing it." This program is free but requires registration here.

WE CAN DO THIS:
In November of 1974 (remember what happened earlier that year?), Democrats picked up FORTY NINE seats in the House. In 2006, Democrats picked up 31 seats to attain a majority. WE ONLY NEED 24 IN 2018.  23 republicans represent districts that Clinton carried in 2016 (3 won by vary narrow margins — Coffman in Colorado's 6th CD is one of them.). Another 10 republicans BARELY won (by less than 4%). More here. Here's another overview.
