"Taking action is the best cure for despair…People like to predict the future, often a dismal future, but the future is not written. It is ours to write. In this moment of utter turmoil, civil society must be the counter to a rogue administration, one whose victory is a surprise equaled by its myriad defeats ever since.” — REBECCA SOLNIT

TOMORROW, one of THE BEST Activism tools Longmont has: The Saturday Longmont Leads with Love Vigil — THIS TIME, A PATRIOTIC POTLUCK PICNIC! 1–2pm, 6th and Main St., Longmont. Celebrate the 4th, enjoy great food and feel solidarity with like-minded folks. Bring a dish to share, zero waste event. REMEMBER the Longmont Leads with Love Vigil is EVERY SATURDAY, 1–2pm!

HERE'S AN IDEA — Help other burgeoning progressive communities — Brush and Greeley, July 4: How about showing support and solidarity for Democrats in other 4th CD Colorado communities that are largely (for now) republican? Longmont used to be red and progressives living here didn't feel they had a voice. We changed that by connecting with other Democrats in our neighborhoods.
2 WAYS TO BOLSTER DEMOCRATIC PRIDE:
1. Morgan County Democrats at the Brush Rodeo "American Pride" Parade, Tuesday, July 4, 10am, Brush. (There's a Pancake Breakfast before the parade!) More info here.
2. Weld County Democrats, at the Greeley Stampede Parade, Tuesday, July 4, 8–8:30am, Weld County Dems float, behind UNC University Center, 2101 10th Ave. For more info, email here.

Uh oh. NOT GOOD: Colorado's Secretary of State, Wayne Williams, will turn over Public Voter Lists to trump panel, here, and here. Call SOS at 303.894.2200 More on Kobach here.

Don't stop calling about BCRA.

UNLESS McConnell pulls a dirty trick, here is the revised timeline for the Senate Healthcare bill: new deal by today or tomorrow, CBO score over July 4 recess (when all the secret deals, and covert promises are made), votes the week of July 11.

Don't get discouraged, don't be distracted by tweets. THE ONLY ANSWER IS MORE CALLS. CALL. TEXT, EMAIL OR FAX (Try Resistbot — text "resist" to 50409). Tweet Gardner here.

You don't want to miss LAD's ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC, Saturday, August 19, 5–8pm, the Shelter at Roosevelt Park. Great food, music, fun people, a chance to connect and put the PARTY in politics! We'll provide burgers, hotdogs, & beverages. Please bring a side dish to share...THANKS!

REMEMBER:
1. BCRA (Better Care for Millionaires) is an UNFIXABLE Bill. Republicans will add amendment after amendment, but tell Gardner you will accept nothing less than a FIRM NO on this bill!
2. KEEP THE PRESSURE ON GARDNER, all through break and after. Use his break to DEMAND public townhalls or stage townhalls of your own, show up at district offices, take pictures, videos and spread far and wide!
3. Encourage and thank Senator Bennet for continuing to speak out against this putrid bill. THIS EMBOLDENS DEMOCRATS to be CHAMPIONS in the future for other issues. Give them cover. Senator Michael Bennet(D): 202-224-5852 (DC) / 303-455-7600 (Denver).
4. Don't contact other Senators in other states, but encourage your friends and family in other states to do so.

PLEASE NOTE: Labor Day is just over nine weeks away. The legislative work schedule for the House has members in session for 13 days – three weeks in July, and then the Congress is off for a five week break into September.

CRUEL IRONY: Disability activists arrested at Gardner's office last night, 6 still in jail as of this writing, here.

WATCH: Monday night, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Representative John Lewis (D-GA5) decide to discuss healthcare on the Capitol steps in DC — who knows how much of this was planned (but who cares?), all before McConnell decided to delay the vote. It's long, so here are a few markers: at 19:00, a random person walks up, at 30:00 a family joins in, Senator Tom Carper at 40:27, other activists based in DC are interviewed by Booker, then Senator Brian Shatz (D-HI), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), a crowd is gathering, Planned Parenthood advocates at 1:13:00, the sun is going down, Rep. Lewis leaves for the evening at about 1:28:00, then Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), more Planned Parenthood legislative advocates at 1:35:00, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) at 1:42:45,  Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) at 2:16:06, who mentions our Senator Bennet's "amazing speech" (below) on the floor, moving healthcare stories from real people at 2:22:35, Michelle Bachelor from In Our own Voice (reproductive justice), Schumer goes back to the floor, more speeches, then Ben Wikler from moveon.org starts to fire up the crowd, many of whom have been there for over 2 hours, more speeches from Murphy, Booker, Merkley, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA), a speaker from ultraviolet.org and Booker again, here.

POWERFUL: WATCH Senator Bennet outline the fight for ACA, honestly admitting its imperfections, and passionately fighting especially, for rural Colorado (last ten minutes of his remarks). THANK HIM and urge him to continue to speak out, and to fight for Medicare for All. (video, here
Senator Michael Bennet(D): 202-224-5852 (DC) / 303-455-7600 (Denver).

THIS IS WHAT A BAD SENATOR LOOKS LIKE: Cory whines that "Washington is broken," here ...but breaks it more with a fat fundraiser hosted by Pence last Friday, then attends the Koch Summit in Colorado Springs last Saturday, here. THEN says the CBO score — 22 million OFF healthcare and 400,000 Coloradans losing Medicaid — isn't ENOUGH for him to block this putrid bill?? (here

HEALTHCARE TALKING POINTS:
The down and dirty of the Better Care and Reconciliation Act — let's call it "Better Care for Millionaires" — from Vox , here.

Read President Barack Obama's statement (hint: it will inspire you to continue the fight!), here.

The Content, Politics & Process from POPVOX here.

Better Care for Millionaires / Trumpdoesn'tcare is a $663 BILLION TAX BREAK for millionaires, disguised as "Healthcare". (Repeals a 3.8% Capital Gains tax — not for the wealthy who work, but the elite conservative class of the wealthy who fund PACs that kill democracy and hurt the poor.)

Obamacare took ELEVEN MONTHS to write and had 44 public hearings! The Democrats actually WORKED with republicans on ACA — the republicans added almost 200 amendments!

Under the Senate version of Better Care for Millionaires, 22 million more people would lose coverage, essential health benefits like maternity and mental health care could disappear, Medicaid would be cut by $800 billion, women's healthcare & Planned Parenthood would especially take hits, and ERs will be further packed with services compromised (for everyone, insured or not).

Under the Senate "plan", 20,000 people will die each year. That's 200,000 lives over ten years — not to mention prolonged human misery for the living. Is one human life worth a $3 million tax cut for the wealthy elite?

VETERANS:  A Center for American Progress analysis finds that 460,000 of the 1.8 million veterans now covered by Medicaid would lose their coverage, and BCRA would reduce current protections for veterans with pre-existing conditions—including service-connected disabilities such as spinal cord injuries, amputations, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Tax Windfall Breakdown:
• $33,000/year TAX CUT for the richest 1%
• $197,000/year TAX CUT for the richest one-tenth of 1%
• 400 people who make more than $300 million/year will get a $7 million/year TAX CUT.

Thank Senator Bennet  for his continued comments against this awful bill, and URGE SENATOR BENNET to do 3 things:
1. Withhold consent & and slow Senate to a halt.
2. Promise to filibuster by amendment the trumpcare bill if it does not get a public hearing.
(more here.)
3. Ultimately move toward Medicare for All
(or an improved S.915 — what does he think of it? Bill summary here.)  Senator Michael Bennet(D): 202-224-5852 (DC) / 303-455-7600 (Denver).

In November of 1974 (remember what happened earlier that year?), Democrats picked up FORTY NINE seats in the House. In 2006, Democrats picked up 31 seats to attain a majority. WE ONLY NEED 24 IN 2018.  23 republicans represent districts that Clinton carried in 2016 (3 won by vary narrow margins — Coffman in Colorado's 6th CD is one of them.). Another 10 republicans BARELY won (by less than 4%). More here. Here's another overview.
