"If people don't vote, everything stays the same. You can protest until the sky turns yellow or the moon turns blue, and it's not going to change anything if you don't vote." — DOLORES HUERTA

(no August LAD meeting, but walk with us THIS SATURDAY, and join us for our Annual Summer Picnic August 18,

THIS SATURDAY, August 4, please JOIN other Democrats and Progressives in the Resistance! Walk with LAD at the Boulder County Fair Parade. Line up at 9am, Roosevelt Park 700 Longs Peak Avenue, Longmont — and look for entry number #66 Green. We need to make a GRASSROOTS BLUE WAVE presence  — up against republican military vehicles (yes, they had them last year!) and really SHOW Longmont what DEMOCRACY looks like! Show other progressives that they are NOT ALONE and that #BlueWave2018 is a THING.

THIS SATURDAY & EVERY SATURDAY — Longmont Leads with Love Weekly (not silent) Vigil, 1–2pm, 6th and Main. Bring signs, banners, flags, songs, art, etc. Park at the public lot on east side of Coffman between 6th and 5th. Everyone is welcome!

Safe Shelter of St. Vrain's 30-hour Volunteer Training, August 7–23. Learn about the domestic violence movement, Safe Shelter’s services and a broad range of topics, covering the impact of domestic violence on individuals and our community. Volunteer training is mandatory for all prospective volunteers, but individuals seeking to learn more are welcome to attend any of the sessions. For more information go to safeshelterofstvrain.org

Saturday, August 11, LAD at the Farmer’s Market, 8am to 1pm, Boulder County Fairgrounds, Longmont. Please stop by our booth, we'll answer questions and let you know about upcoming events and action items. LAD will also be at the Farmer's Market on September 8, September 22, October 6 and October 20.

DON'T MISS: Saturday, August 18, LAD Annual Summer Picnic, 5-8pm, Ollin Farms. We will provide burgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs & buns. Please bring a side dish to share. The LAD Picnic is always fun, lots of camaraderie, elected officials, inspiration — and the band is firing up for another performance!

NEXT LAD MEETING: Wednesday September 5 — stay tuned for details!

IT'S A PETITION SUMMER: #97 is the 2500 setback proposition BUT, ballot measures 108, 109, 110, 111, & 113 are all funded by Oil & Gas (we covered this at our June meeting, slide 21, here). All petitions are due August 6. More on Colorado Ballot Initiatives here.
The 2018 MIDTERM is the most important election in our time. ELECT PROGRESSIVE County, State and Federal leaders to pass laws that PROTECT people in Colorado from an extreme US Supreme Court and the egregious policies of trump. That means: Congressional Reps who will be a DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY we can be proud of (encourage Karen McCormick to track buck's votes, drawing a clear distinction as why she'll be a GREAT REP for the 4TH CD!).  Governors who will veto abortion restrictions and gerrymanders (encourage Jared Polis to rally around this objective), state representatives and state senators who will expand labor and reproductive rights (it is CRITICAL that we maintain our state house majority and secure a state senate majority!), Secretaries of State that will replace aggressive voter purges with robust voting rights agendas (Jena Griswold is on board with this, but show her your support and have discussions about this). AGs and DAs that will protect our immigrant community (urge Boulder County DA Michael Dougherty and AG candidate Phil Weiser to be public on why this issue is so important to Colorado and our country). State Treasurers who will protect and balance our state budget (support Dave Young!). We have stellar Democratic representation on the county level — continue to support these candidates! THIS IS WHY IT IS VITAL that you tell EVERYONE you know to VOTE THEIR WHOLE BALLOT this fall!

YOUR PRECINCT LEADER NEEDS YOU: If you are a precinct leader, THANK YOU. If you don't know your precinct leader, look them up here. Then offer 2 hours on a weekend to help with getting out the vote IN ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTIONS OF OUR TIME (did we say that already?) THANKS!
