Greetings from a very snowy Dojo!

Winter hit us early this year at the Dojo, but luckily the snow came after our weekend workshops were concluded in November. We're now finally settling down into our winter routine, after a successful 38-date autumn tour of the UK & our "Taiko Drumfest" concert featuring all the players at the Dojo (see below).

New Mugenkyo DVD: "Celebration"

On the eve of our autumn UK tour, we released a new Mugenkyo DVD, featuring our 15th Anniversary Concert celebrations. In addition to concert footage from our anniversary concert, it also contains a documentary of the event, with backstage scenes & footage of rehearsals at the Dojo, giving viewers a real insight to life behind the scenes with Mugenkyo. Total running time: 95 min

You can purchase the DVD at our new online shop - a limited edition which includes a bonus live CD.

Taiko Course in Glasgow & Edinburgh
- starting January 2011

Our last taiko course & performance project was highly successful, with a total of 20 participants taking part in our November "Taiko Drumfest" concert. A big congratulations to all the participants, who excelled themselves in the performance.

We will be repeating the project again in the new year, starting on 18 January. The project consists of 10-week courses in both Glasgow & Edinburgh, leading to a final performance: a guest spot in our "Taiko Drumfest" concert to be held on 25 March at the East Kilbride Village Theatre.

The course is suitable for beginners, and will take you step by step learning the basics through to learning a performance piece. The main requirements are that you've got lots of energy & you're keen to perform onstage!

Taiko Drumfest at Howden Park, Livingston

Straight after our return from tour, we embarked on the monumental task of organising a taiko drum concert featuring a grand total of 40 drummers onstage!

The main performers were the members of the Mugen Taiko Dojo, who displayed their talents in a wide variety of both traditional and modern pieces. The participants from our 10-week Glasgow & Edinburgh courses also performed a short guest slot as part of the concert.

Mugenkyo on Tour in Autumn 2010

Our 38-date autumn tour proved to be a great success, with memorable performances at venues spread far & wide across the country, from the Eden Court Centre in Inverness to the Theatre Royal in Brighton, to the St. David's Hall in Cardiff.

The concert featured new costumes, including taiko in frocks (!), and new lighting, including performing part of "Phoenix" in UV light, highlighting the movement of the bachi across the skins of the drums.

Mugenkyo dancer Lale Sayoko performed the perennial favourite "Hanya" masked dance, as well as a new version of the double-veil dance.

Our next tour will take place in autumn 2011 - until then we will be working on new material & new ideas - watch this space!
