Record-Setting Year for ICI Development

The Town of Milton is pleased to announce that it has secured more than 2.5 million square feet of non-residential development in 2015, setting a new annual record for the Town.
“I am very pleased with this, it is a testament to our open-for-business culture,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “We continue to achieve a balance of residential and non-residential development and provide a high standard of living for the Milton community.”
Seven large non-residential developments received permits in 2015: Emery Investments, Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), Kylin and CREIT, Prologis (three facilities), and Sun Life Financial. Expansions were approved this year for a.b.m. Canada, Crawford Metals, and Dare Foods Ltd.
“In the fall, we anticipated that 2015 would be a record-breaking year, and it’s exciting to see that the last large development project of the year received its permits and will begin construction,” added Mayor Krantz.
“The Town of Milton prides itself in extending excellent customer service to new and existing businesses, by assisting them with site location and guiding them through the development process,” said Andrew Siltala, Senior Manager, Economic Development. “The success of the Town’s investment attraction program is a critical component of the plan for balanced growth.”

Milton: Canada's Best Place for Business

The Town of Milton was named Canada’s Best Place for Business in 2015, according to
“On behalf of Milton Council, we are proud to be named Canada’s Best Place for Business, and if I may be so bold, this title comes as little surprise to us,” said Town of Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “There are a number of factors that make Milton such a great place to do business – from a well-educated, well-earning population to a local government that works closely with businesses to help their business thrive in Milton.”
The Canadian Business “Best Places for Business” relies on a mix of data from municipal governments and independent demographic and market data. Several criteria where Milton rated highly were market indicators such as population growth, median household income, percentage of residents apprenticeship or trade certificate, and percentage of residents with a university degree; governmental indicators such as building permit processing time and business property tax rate; and cost indicators such as average home price, average office lease rate and average commercial lease rate. Milton also benefits from its prime location within the Greater Toronto Area, which affords proximity to major highways, international airports and the U.S. border.

“The Town is headed for a record year for non-residential growth, which speaks to the success Milton has had at attracting new businesses and supporting existing ones with their expansion plans,” added Mayor Krantz. “Milton is truly competitive as a growing community within one of the top five markets in North America.”

Lowe's Canada Opens Massive Distribution Centre

The Town of Milton was on hand to join in the celebration the official opening of the new Lowe’s Canada’s Distribution Centre on December 1, 2015 at 8450 Boston Church Road. The 1.3 million square foot distribution previously operating as the Target distribution centre, was purchased by Lowe’s Canada. Lowe's plans to open an additional 13 retail stores within the next 18 months.

Mario Paradis, Lowe’s Canada’s Senior Director of Supply Chain and Logistics was excited to begin operations in their new state-of-the-art facility which he boasted to be one the most energy efficient building in North America.

Lowe’s Canada have been in Milton for over a decade including their previous location at a 626,000 sq. ft. distribution centre on James Snow Parkway.

Founded in 1946, Lowe's has grown from a small hardware store in North Carolina to a Fortune 50 company with thousands of employees – the second largest home improvement retailer worldwide.
