Hello again - It's "all hands to the pumps" here as we enter the final stages of preparations for  the EFCLIN Congress. If you haven't registered yet make sure you book your place here , I recommend it. In addition to being able to visit us on the Optimec booth of course you'll also be able to meet most of the suppliers relevant to your business under one roof - now that's efficient! Joining me on the Optimec booth will be Andrew Perkins, David Sheerin and Dumitru Pop.

The phrase "All hands to the pumps" could also be taken literally as well. We are in the final stages of testing a new temperature control & pump assembly to sit alongside our already very successful TC20i unit. Want a sneak preview? EFCLIN is the place.
However, we are not the only people planning things and getting excited about big events in the calendar. Helen Johnson, one of our team members here at Optimec is getting married in a few days time. We wish Helen and her "husband to be" all the very best for their future happiness.
Finally, still on the theme of congratulations - Keith Parker of Advanced Vision Technologies in the USA - Winner of our Prize Draw for a "free" EFCLIN ticket. Well done Keith.
That's all for now.

Operations Director

The Future Is Bright - The Future Is Digital

Operating with the principal of "continuous improvement" means that instrument manufacture at Optimec is ever changing.
Optimec customers will be fully aware that we have for some time now been working on our "next generation" measurement platform. I'm pleased to report that progress has been rapid and we are now in a position to share a lot more detail with interested parties and prospective customers. We are setting aside some appointments for people to receive a briefing on the current status during the EFCLIN Congress & Exhibition. If you would like to arrange an appointment please e-mail me direct on If you haven't yet registered for the EFCLIN Congress & Exhibition you can do so here.

Cool It - And Control It

It's long been clear that there is a direct and very clear correlation between temperature and consistency of measurement when working with soft lenses. With some lens designs (depending upon the physical mass of polymer involved) the effect of a 0.5 degree shift in temperature can have a dramatic effect on measurement results obtained. These are some of the things that have lead to our TC20i Temperature Controller becoming as successful as it has. However, as we have never been a company to "stand still" we've been developing an entirely new temperature control and filtration platform that will outperform even the TC20i. If you would like to find out more about it e-mail us on or call +44 (0)1684 892859.

What's Under The Bonnet? - The Light Engine

We've mentioned before that we have been working on providing our full range of instruments with an enhanced light source. The good news is that now, subject to final field trials, we plan to start fitting the new light source into instruments in general production. The advantages are significant and wide ranging when compared to traditional dichroic lamps. The new LED based technology gives a staggering 78% reduction in energy required, and produces an instrument cabinet temperature that is 66% lower than current instruments. In addition users can expect a lamp life up to 7 times longer than current dichroic designs. If that weren't enough the new LED "Light Engine" provides a far more consistent level of illumination over longer periods of operation and gives much better resolution due to the greatly improved contrast achieved.

As well as fitting the new "Light Engine" into mainstream production instruments we plan to also have it available as an after market accessory to allow existing Dichroic based instruments to be upgraded. If you'd like to find out more e-mail us on or call +44 (0)1684 892859.
