The Freedom to Marry
Fri 12:00 pm
Historic Ashland Armory
Documentary | 86 minutes | Director: Eddie Rosenstein
An inspirational look at the culminating court battle that took same-sex marriage from a “preposterous notion” just a few decades ago to the law of the land today. “The Freedom to Marry” movement is now considered one of the most successful civil rights campaigns in modern history, but change did not arrive by happenstance. This victory was carefully planned and orchestrated over decades. The film tells the untold story of marriage equality’s brilliant mastermind, Evan Wolfson, and its passionate litigator, Mary Bonauto from the earliest days of their journey to their final, thrilling triumph at the US Supreme Court.

Produced by AIFF2017 Pride Award recipient Jenni Olson

Happy Lucky Golden Tofu Panda Dragon
Good Time Fun Fun Show
Sat 9:30 pm
Historic Ashland Armory
Documentary | 80 minutes | Director: Carrie Preston | Oregon Premiere
East meets West in this live stand-up comedy, sketch, and rock ‘n’ roll/ spoken word concert film focused on Asian American themes including bowl cuts, math nerds—and Hello Kitty everything! The film is anchored in a live show by Slanty Eyed Mama: two good Asian girls gone bad-assed. Virtuoso violinist Lyris Hung and comedian/actor Kate Rigg take on some of the biggest issues and cultural tropes of the Asian immigrant experience with humor and musical “medit-asians” on contemporary culture. Directed by Emmy Award-winning actor Carrie Preston (True Blood and The Good Wife).
Slanty Eyed Mama will perform LIVE after the film!
