Project Manager - Optimal Care Pathways
With extensive experience in acute, aged care, primary health care and community services sectors, Jo brings a broad range of knowledge and networks to the Optimal Care Pathways implementation project. She enjoys meeting and working with the many people from across the region who are committed to improving cancer care and the experience of people with cancer. Jo also enjoys yoga and book club, and recalls her favourite holiday being a French White Christmas.

Optimal Care Pathways Survey
GICS are currently conducting a baseline gap analysis of Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs) across health services and organisations within the Grampians region. As the pathways are relatively new, organisations may be at various stages of awareness and planning for implementation. This survey will assist GICS to understand current awareness and practice in relationship to the recommendations in line with the OCPs. The Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs) were developed to guide the delivery of timely, consistent, safe, high-quality and evidence based cancer care and also aim to promote consumer centred, coordinated care to improve the experience of people with cancer.

Grampians Regional Chemotherapy Services Plan
Early this year, GICS engaged a consultant, birru.health, to develop a Grampians Region Chemotherapy Services Plan with the aim of providing GICS and our member organisations with a detailed picture of the current state of the regional chemotherapy service system and its future requirements. Findings are based on consultations with service providers and consumers, data analysis and a planning workshop. Wimmera Southern Mallee Cancer Resource Nurse

Cancer Resource Nurses (CRNs) are local nurses who are trained to offer supportive care to people affected by cancer in their own area. They can refer people with cancer to the right services as close to home as possible and offer support and information.

Oesophagogastric Cancers Summit
A Summit meeting for Oesophagogastric cancers was held in August. An initiative of the Victorian Integrated Cancer Services, and delivered in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services and Cancer Council Victoria's Clinical Network, these tumour specific summits provide a forum where clinicians review the available data and prioritise short-term actions to improve clinical outcomes. It is intended that this clinician-led program provides a consistent approach to improving cancer care and outcomes across the state. David Deutscher, GICS Clinical Director sat on the coordinating working group, and pleasingly there was also regional participation by 4 clinicians at the meeting itself.
