MAL'S MONTHLY MESSAGE

News from the leading national association representing & advocating
on behalf of Electrical Contractors

Dear <<First Name>>,

2017 was a year of growth, change and achievement for the team at Master Electricians. Thanks to our partners Clipsal by Schneider, Legrand, Energy Super and CNW, we convened another successful National Conference - this time in Noumea, as well as our best Excellence Awards yet.

Importantly, we achieved a host of key advocacy wins for our members and our industry.

Key Wins

  • Alleluia to the introduction of Project Bank Accounts. We have advocated on the need for this protection since our formation 80 years ago and welcome this legislation in Queensland. We are now looking to ensure this becomes nationwide.
  • We stepped up our support for Safety Switches – in Victoria as well as other states. We firmly believe that safety switches save lives and behavioral change will only come about from changes to government regulation. At least 15 people are killed in homes across Australia every year from preventable electrical deaths, and another 300 are hospitalised due to electrical injuries. We continue to encourage all property owners to ensure safety switches are installed on every circuit of their home or business premises.
  • We called on all states and territories to implement uniform Product Safety Laws for the building industry. This followed multiple examples of dangerous cladding and electrical cables being used in major buildings across Australia, and the recent passage of the Building and Construction Legislation (Non-Conforming Products-Chain of Responsibility) Amendment Bill in Queensland. The risks we have witnessed over the last year are an unacceptable.

Ahead in 2018…

2018 promises to be a year of development, for both our members and our team. With a host of new business solutions, events and industry updates coming your way, keep an eye out on our regular emails and social media updates to find out what’s happening in a location near you.

AS/NZS 3000

AS/NZS 3000 is now completed and awaiting due process, we anticipate its release within the next three months. Once released there will be a 6-month implementation period. During this time, we will be providing ongoing educational assistance to members, including information sessions. Stay tuned to attend a session at a location near you!

The changes to AS/NZS 3000 will result in:
  • 194 explicit changes to the new version of the Wiring Rules
  • 6 new appendices
  • 54 completely new clauses
  • Section 7 has been completely re-written

Master Electricians Magazine

We are delighted to announce we have partnered with TMPC Publishers and Circuit magazine to bring our members a new and improved industry magazine, which will see our magazine increase from four to eleven editions per year.

We look forward to yet another busy year ahead and thank you for your continued support.
