New – VIRTUAL 2020 SCHIMA Annual Meeting & Exhibit

2020 VIRTUAL SCHIMA Annual Meeting and Exhibit Image

Unfortunately, with continued social distancing and meeting restrictions in place, due to COVID-19, the SCHIMA Board has elected to change our 2020 SCHIMA Annual Meeting & Exhibit to a virtual format and we are planning to return to Greenville in July of 2022.
Attendees previously registered for the onsite event received notices on 5/29/20 for options to cancel and receive full refunds or to convert their registration to our virtual format and receive a partial refund.
The very good news, our new rates are 50% off the original event price. Please visit our website to learn about the new format and great pricing and increased number of CEUs you can earn.

We are also offering two networking opportunities as live events on July 20th. We will host a live student session for our students across the state hosted by Maureen Marks, our SCHIMA Student Outreach Coordinator, and a virtual happy hour to allow members to network using WebEx and our messaging platform on our website. We may not have the opportunity to network in Greenville this year, but we hope you join us on the web.

HIM Awareness

The Good News for SCHIMA is that we are moving forward with our Advocacy Efforts!

SC HIMSS and SCHIMA are moving forward with our plans to advocate for the issues confronting us amidst the challenges of COVID-19! We hope that in the coming months that you will be able to give some serious thought to providing some time and lending your voice to advocate for the changes so important to the well-being and health of South Carolinians!

Here is what has been accomplished so far!
  • Plans are still to have an Advocacy Day in South Carolina
  • SCHIMA has agreed to provide the technology for a virtual Advocacy Day, hopefully in August.
  • The key areas targeted for discussion:  Empowering Electronic Case Reporting, Expanding Telehealth Services, and Strengthening the Infrastructure, and Health Information Exchange
As you know, HIM expertise is important in all of these key areas!  The skills and knowledge that we have—regardless of whether you are responsible for functions like data analytics, health informatics, health information management, compliance, risk management, coding, or auditing—are needed! Our workforce is key to the success of ensuring that health information is accurate, secure, and meaningful throughout the continuum of care. Helping our legislators and their staff recognize the skills and knowledge we possess is key to reinforcing our workforce engagement efforts.

We will provide an update soon, as we continue to work with SC HIMSS on this important joint effort to raise awareness of the health information and technology needs of South Carolina!
