AHIMA House of Delegates Recap

This is a two-part series of the House of Delegates recap. In an upcoming e-alert you will learn more about the Strategic Pathfinders Sessions and results of the AHIMA Bylaw changes.

The House of Delegates met on October 17, 2020 with a kick-off from AHIMA CEO, Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. Wylecia stated that we, as Health Information Professionals, are looking at “work through a new set of lenses” while also “learning and working together” in our new environment. To that end, some new initiatives were unveiled.

ACCESS:

ACCESS is a new community that will replace the current Engage in 2021. ACCESS will be a more robust platform and community. The acronym stands for:
  • AHIMA
  • Curated
  • Communities to
  • Enhance
  • Success and
  • Sustainability
This new community will allow you to:
  • Build your Health Information network and professional community
  • Expand your access to Health Information (HI) and professional resources
  • Customize your HI persona by joining communities specific to your interests and leadership path
  • access unlimited networks outside of traditional HIM in the broader healthcare ecosystem

AHIMA Naming Policy:

Accurate patient identification is necessary to ensure the right patient is being treated with the right information. This has been a longstanding initiative with AHIMA in their initiative to streamline patient identification. As part of this initiative, AHIMA was a founding member in Patient ID Now, in
 coalition with other
 leading healthcare
 organizations such
 as American College
 of Surgeons, HIMSS,
 College of Healthcare
Information Management Executives (CHIME) to remove the longstanding ban in its Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies bill that stifles innovation around patient identification. The goal – to achieve a 1% duplicate record error rate.

The AHIMA Naming Policy allows you to help put your voice behind this important initiative.
