A Message from Our President

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2023. As we begin the new calendar year, we are full of excitement and anticipation. The new year brings with it a clean slate, a fresh start, and a drive to make a better year than last. And while the calendar year is new, we are halfway through our MNHIMA fiscal year. However, that doesn’t mean we approach it with any less excitement and anticipation. This is the most active time of the MNHIMA year. We are currently finalizing our MNHIMA ballot with many qualified nominees. Thank you to all who have agreed, (or will agree) to be on the ballot. It is this volunteerism that is at the core of what makes MNHIMA great. Please make sure to review the nominees and vote when voting opens. We are also working hard to promote our MNHIMA Scholarships to college program directors and students. As an organization, we support our upcoming workforce and would love to give out all our allotted scholarship dollars. If you think you qualify for a scholarship, please go to the Scholarships page on the MNHIMA website and apply. We worked hard to make the application process easier this year. We are also actively looking for MNHIMA members to consider for our Mark Dietz Rising Star, Shirley Eichenwald-Maki Outstanding Student, and Distinguished Member. If you know of someone who fits these categories, please go to the Achievement Awards page on the MNHIMA website, and nominate a deserving member.
This spring also brings with it 2 very important advocacy events for our profession. In March, MNHIMA will be sending representatives to the annual AHIMA Hill Day in Washington, DC. This is a time for AHIMA to make themselves and important healthcare issues known to our legislatures. We will also be hosting our own MN Hill Day. This is an opportunity for us to raise our professional voices to our MN representatives. Keep an eye out for details and ways in which you can participate in the MN Hill Day.
Our biggest MNHIMA event takes place April 26th – 28th, the 2023 MNHIMA Annual Meeting. This year’s theme is Racing Toward Innovation and takes place at Mystic Lake Casino. Mary Juenemann and her team have been diligently working on finalizing the agenda with some great content and speakers. Here are some of the benefits of attending the annual meeting: connect with others in your industry to problem solve, innovate, and discover new ideas and technology; network for your personal and professional growth; be a part of a larger HIM professional voice and finally education from great speakers on great topics while earning a large number of CEUs. Registration is currently open, and the tentative agenda will be coming out soon. It’s an event you don’t want to miss!
In addition to all of this, we will also begin our strategic planning and budget forecasting for the next fiscal year.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank all our volunteers, who without them none of this would be possible. It is you, who makes all this worthwhile. The friendships and network built by volunteering is an asset that you will carry both personally and professionally and will help you achieve things you never thought possible. It is a privilege and honor to work alongside you all!

The manual itself is reviewed continuously for updates and revisions by the Legal Reference Manual Committee comprised of HIM professionals from different facilities and companies across the state, as well as a team of legal professionals.  Each of these individuals brings their own expertise and experience to the table.  This creates a wide body of knowledge from all areas of HIM.  The current manual includes 14 chapters that address a variety of HIM-related topics.
