Something Surprising to Know About Me In 2015, I had a vertebral artery dissection which led to a stroke. By God’s abundant grace and mercy, I have no residual effects to speak of from the incident.
I volunteer as a Vincentian with the St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden. We go out in pairs to meet with the poorest of the poor in our community to provide friendship, aid and support during their time of need.
How Did I Get Into HIM?
I was a bewildered high school student trying to figure out what I wanted to be in life. In the guidance counselor's office of the local community college, I discovered a tri-fold pamphlet entitled Medical Record Administration. It peaked my interest, as I was leaning toward healthcare, but didn’t want to take care of patients. So, I visited Baptist Medical Center in Gadsden (currently Gadsden Regional Medical Center) and talked with Donna (Salmons) Stanley who was the Asst. Director of Medical Records at the time. She spoke highly of the role she was in and enjoyed classes she attended at UAB. It sounded fascinating, versatile, professional and most of all....not at the bedside! I was hooked and in 42 years, I continue to enjoy the evolving challenges inherent in our wonderful profession!
