Board Meeting Recap

Submitted by: Stephanie Donovan, EdD, RHIA-PHIMA President-Elect

The first quarter PHIMA Board Meeting took place virtually on August 7th, 2020. Significant new business items discussed during the meeting include:

Strategic Planning

PHIMA President Denise French introduced the PHIMA Strategic Plan. A central component of the plan is operationalizing AHIMAs Professional Enhancement Campaign (PEC). The PEC is "a research-founded approach designed to clearly articulate the value of health information professionals within the contemporary healthcare landscape and the role of AHIMA throughout it." The PEC Toolkit is rich with language to more accurately convey the importance of HIM across the healthcare delivery system. Core messaging of the PEC will be socialized using PHIMA e-Alerts and a dedicated social media campaign.

Environmental Scanning

Board members reaffirmed their commitment to supporting PHIMA members in the diverse roles they hold, including educators, students, and vendor partners. Stay tuned for the fall membership survey, which is the primary tool to solicit member input and inform the work of the Education Committee.

Education Committee

The Education Committee shared ideas on topics for the coming year with an emphasis on ensuring sessions are discipline-relevant and meaningful to PHIMA's diverse membership.

Volunteerism & Fundraising

Developing and growing PHIMA's volunteer base remains a high priority area of focus. Virtual fundraising opportunities are being explored, as are ways to strengthen vendor partnership and sponsorship.
