Sharing South-South rural development solutions
IFAD recently launched its Rural Solutions Portal, a web-based platform that leverages South-South learning to share innovations, technologies, processes, and methodologies between countries and regions.
How women’s time use affects dietary diversity
Women’s domestic work and cooking time are positively correlated with more diverse diets for them and their children. Also, agriculture as a source of food and income is likely to be particularly important for the asset poor. These are the findings of IFPRI researchers, using data from Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Ghana, and Mozambique.
 
Radical changes needed to meet nutrition needs in 2050
Current global food production could meet human nutrition needs in 2050 if access to the global food supply is significantly improved and populations make radical changes to dietary choices finds a quantitative analysis by researchers at Lancaster University.
 
What leads to wasting among South Asian children?
In South Asia, younger children and those whose mothers had a low body mass index had greater odds of being wasted finds a Tufts/UNICEF-study, using data from six Asian countries. Adolescence, pregnancy, and the first six weeks after birth represent windows of opportunity for tackling child wasting as well as stunting.
Rwandan Prime Minister joins Compact2025 Leadership Council
We are delighted to announce that Prime Minister Édouard Ngirente of Rwanda has joined the Compact2025 Leadership Council. He joins a distinguished group of champions and influential thinkers to provide strategic guidance to Compact2025 and to help shape and unify commitments to end hunger and undernutrition.
 
The urgency of accelerating progress
In a new video, Shenggen Fan, Director General of IFPRI, explains the urgent need to accelerate the end of hunger and malnutrition as a prerequisite for achieving all SDGs. Acceleration is the key theme of the forthcoming IFPRI-FAO Global Event.
 
Thought for Food Challenge selects innovative winners
Coating+, a Nigerian biotech startup, won the grand prize of the recent Thought for Food Challenge for its coating that helps extend the shelf life of fresh foods. Additional prizes were awarded for a decentralized organic fertilizer production system, a manufacturing process to upcycle surplus poultry feathers, and a community-owned grain drying and processing service for rural villages.
 
Unpacking integrated nutrition
An interview with IFPRI Senior Research Fellow Harold Alderman explores the linkages between integrated nutrition and food security as well as examples of integrated nutrition approaches that had high impact and sustainable results.
 
3 in 5 babies not breastfed in the first hour of life
Three in five babies are not breastfed within the first hour of life, putting them at higher risk of death and disease and making them less likely to continue breastfeeding, say UNICEF and WHO in a new report. Alongside the report, the WHO and UNICEF-led Global Breastfeeding Collective also released the 2018 Global Breastfeeding Scorecard, which tracks progress for breastfeeding policies and programs.
