Ground Game Texas Submits Signatures to Secure Ballot Initiative To Decriminalize Marijuana in Harker Heights, TX

HARKER HEIGHTS, TX (Friday, June 3, 2022) - On Friday, June 3, 2022, the voter engagement and mobilization organization, Ground Game Texas, announced they have successfully collected enough signatures to secure a ballot initiative that would decriminalize marijuana in Harker Heights, Texas.

If approved, the initiative, named the Harker Heights Freedom Act of 2022, will be an initiated ordinance to change Harker Heights city law to decriminalize enforcement of low-level marijuana offenses. Under the Harker Heights city code, petitioners must submit valid signatures from at least 25% of the number of registered voters in the last regular municipal election to secure a ballot measure.

"Following the success of Prop A in Austin and the recent securing of ballot initiatives in Killeen and San Marcos, Ground Game Texas is proud to give Harker Heights residents the opportunity to decriminalize marijuana," said Julie Oliver, Executive Director of Ground Game Texas. "Ground Game Texas continues to demonstrate that popular policies around issues like workers, wages, and weed can help expand and electrify the electorate in Texas when they're put directly in front of voters."

Ground Game Texas recently passed an Austin ballot initiative to decriminalize marijuana and ban no-knock police warrants with more than 85% support from voters. Ground Game Texas recently announced they have successfully collected enough signatures to secure a ballot initiative to decriminalize marijuana in Killeen and San Marcos, Texas. The Harker Heights campaign is one of ten ballot campaigns Ground Game Texas has launched across the state of Texas to bring new voters into the fold and mobilize them behind progressive change.
