Virtual Seminar on the Effective Application in Guatemala of Special Investigation Techniques in Cases of Transnational Organized Crime

This event is directed to officials and investigators from the Attorney General´s office with responsibility for the prosecution of crimes related to transnational organized crime; officials of the National Civil Police; and officials of the Secretariat against Sexual Violence, Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons in Guatemala and seeks to strengthen the technical capacity of professionals in the development of efficient processes for investigations, and promote best practices to overcome these challenges. The high-level dialogue is intended for public officials with responsibility for peace, security, foreign affairs, women's organizations, peace activists and the general public. The event seeks to promote a debate on the opportunities and challenges for advancing the regional agenda of "women, peace and security" through the voices of women who have led in this area. In addition, the document entitled "Pathways to peace and security, forged by women: An agenda for the Americas" will be launched.  The dialogue is organized by the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the OAS.

Third Workshop on Patrimonial Investigations, Asset Tracking and Administration of Illegally Obtained Assets in Colombia

This workshop is intended for staff of the Attorney General's Office linked to the areas of money laundering, asset forfeiture and terrorism financing, and aims to strengthen the capacities of the officials of the agencies in charge of the investigation of the money laundering and its offenses, and the recovery of assets. The workshop is organized by the Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC) of the OAS.

Seventy-second Regular Session of CICAD

The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) will hold its seventy-second regular session November 8-11, 2022, at OAS headquarters in Washington D.C. with a virtual option. The agenda will include panels and presentations on a variety of drug related topics;  the presentation of the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism national reports on Measures to Control and Counter the Illicit Cultivation, Production, Trafficking, and Distribution of Drugs, and to Address their Causes and Consequences; the presentation of reports and election of authorities for CICAD experts groups for the period 2022-2023; the presentation of the CICAD Executive Secretariat’s Report on Drug Supply in the Americas 2022; and the presentation of the Executive Secretariat’s Work Plan for 2023.

The Countering Aviation Security Ecosystem Threats (CASET) course is intended for personnel exercising functions in the aviation security field and it aims to provide technical training and exchange of best practices to aviation security officers on how to counter existing threats in civil aviation.  The course is organized by the Aviation Security Program of the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE) of the OAS, together with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, with the support of the United States Department of State.

International Conference on the Implementation of Drug Use Prevention Policies and Programs 

The goal of this conference is to strengthen the capacity of national drug commissions officials in charge of developing and implementing drug use prevention policies, strategies, and programs in OAS member states. This event is organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) of the OAS in collaboration with the University of Miami. (Note: This conference was originally scheduled for September 2022, but was postponed due to Hurricane Ian.)

Dialogue: “Key Ideas: Rights of Children and Adolescents”

Within the framework of the commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Inter-American Institute for Children and Adolescents (IIN) of the OAS relaunches the cycle of talks “Key Ideas” where participants will address reflections on the CRC, early childhood policies, adolescent criminal responsibility, and reflections of the IIN Directing Council. This edition will include the participation of children and adolescents through the formation of an "organizing committee" that will design and produce the dialogue tables. The talks will be virtual and open to the public.

Training of Trainers (ToT) of the Women’s Intervention for Substance Exposure (WISE): Comprehensive Care for Substance Use Disorder

This training (only by invitation) is organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) of the OAS in collaboration with the National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Consumption (SENDA, by its Spanish-language acronym), of the Chilean Ministry of the Interior and Public Security. Its objective is to improve the understanding of women’s unique treatment needs and how to address them through practical knowledge and techniques.

Training for Treating Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders in Guyana

This training will provide treatment professionals in Guyana with the tools to identify, assess, and treat adolescents adolescents with substance use disorder and address the main factors that place them at higher risk and vulnerability than other populations, through individual, family, and community interventions. The event is organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) and by the Ministry of Health of Guyana.
