Gallery at Gray’s is pleased to announce the installation of works by cinematic assemblage artist Kasumi, in the historic grand opening of DC (Donau City) Tower 1 in Vienna’s Donaucity, Austria. A selection of works from Kasumi’s Perpetual Series, showcased, at aqua artmiami this past December, celebrated the official grand opening of Austria’s newest, tallest and hailed as most ‘iconic’ building of the 21st century.

Construction on this 60 story building began almost four years ago and intended to celebrate Vienna as a true EU metropolis. From the mind of Thomas Jakoubek, of the development group WED AG, and designed by the renowned French architect, Dominique Perrault, the tower has attracted much attention for it’s unique construction and dramatic alteration of the city’s skyline. Die Presse, Austria’s national newspaper, noted the towers potential for housing art and praised Kasumi’s innovative cinematic works of fine art for the 21st century for proving this so.
The huge installation of Kasumi’s works greeted all guests when they arrived in the main lobby. The works were described by one attendee and video art collector as “bold, innovative, hypnotic, cathartic, maddening, clarifying, calming, confusing, baffling, laughingly and seriously human, ironic, iconic, eternal, ephemeral, epic and so Hollywood!”

The official opening celebration was attending by a collection of celebrity guests, including former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and the architect himself, Dominique Perrault.
DC Tower 1 will feature a 253 room hotel, the 57 Restaurant and Lounge, and boasts 360 degree panoramic views across the Danube River and Austria’s capital.  Its neighbor DC Tower 2 from the same developer and architect, Jakoubek and Perrault, is currently under construction.
