About a month ago, we said we were looking for a COO in the newsletter.

Many thought it was an unusual tactic for such a senior position.

We received over 600+ resumes from some very smart people with 27 (4.4%) getting to a first screen. Given our newsletter’s smart readership and reach, it seemed like a channel worth trying — even if a bit unconventional.

One thing that many applicants cited was the job req itself, which folks generally found more detailed and interesting than the typical boilerplate job req.
