Brain electrification

Brain stimulation, or using a weak electrical current to shake up your neurons, has become pretty trendy with athletes and researchers over the last 10 years.
Allegedly, stimulating the prefrontal cortex boosts mood and physical performance, and giving your upper motor cortex a buzz enhances the natural recovery process. All you need is a 9-volt battery and a couple of electrodes.
But does it actually work? And if it does, is that a good thing?
